Galindez was a bit of a precursor as well, and fought three of those guys. Extremely rich era.

I haven't seen much of him, besides the fight with Braddock.

Did you forget Charles? Dillon at 10? What fight have you seen him in? Delaney at #8? Some work is needed here.

As for Jack Johnson, he lost and drew to some men below 175, and others close to that weight were not as good as some men on this list, but we know these facts already

    Tunney
    Fitzsimmons
    Langford
    Charles
    Moore
    Spinks
    Foster
    Jones, jr
    Greb
    Lewis

*The winner of Kovalev vs Ward might rate one day

Perhaps he only ranked those who held the crown?

Indeed JT - surely the deepest period in the division's history?

Good question. I think if you went back to the right point when Moore, Charles and co were there you'd find a bit of depth as well?
Have to be a big chance Beebs. I wonder how deep it was at the point when Charles, Moore, Bivens, Marshall and co where there?

From what you've seen of him, how do you think Kovalev matches up with these guys McVey?

I clearly stated that my list was comprised of light heavyweight champions only.No surprise that you could not absorb that.QUOTE="Mendoza, post: 18214914, member: 19227"]Did you forget Charles? Dillon at 10? What fight have you seen him in? Delaney at #8? Some work is needed here.

Despite the heading ranking only those the held the light heavyweight crown, you managed to misread it.
    No surprise there.
Dillon I haven't seen in a fight , neither have I seen Harry Greb or Maxie Rosenbloom should I not rank them?
    Dillon beat:
    Chip x10
    Levinsky x6 HOF
    Mantellx4
    Kelly
    Cowler
    Moran
    Smith x2
    McGoorty
    McCoy
    Miske HOF
    Leo Houck HOF
    Flynnx3
Won 94 fights lost just 8 and drew 15.
    Delaney beat;
    Berlenbach x3HOF
    Renault
    Uzcudun
    McTigue
    Roper
    Risko
    Flowers x2HOF
    Gans
    Moody
    Rojas
    Loughran HOF
    Gorman
    RosenbloomHOF
He won 73 fights lost 11 and drew 2.

@mcvey not got an answer for my question?

in case you missed it - how do you feel Kovalev matches up against your top 10?

Sorry I originally took my permanent leave of this Forum earlier in the week but came back to respond to and correct Mendozy's BS. I typed out a response to you but couldn't have posted it, my apologies.
Kovalev has not beaten anyone to rank him in an all time top ten imo. His best win is over a 50 years old man. Likewise Ward hasn't beaten anyone of note at 175lbs, for my part I would have preferred Kovalev to face Stevenson ,at least then we would have an undisputed champion. Kovalev has real power but is essentially a long puncher who relies on range finding with his jab to set up his cross. He is very upright and has gaps in his defence , but most are so intimidated by his power they don't get too adventurous,Pascal showed flashes of what is possible if one has self belief. At the moment I don't know if Kovalev could beat several of the guys that don't make my ten, men like Saad,Galindez,Lopez,Conteh,Gregory,Braxton,he hasn't been tested in the fire yet.
Ward is very good at nullifying his opponents jab ,and is excellent inside , if he can do that, fight in spurts and keep turning the Russian , he may beat him and then talk of Kovalev being an ATG will fade away, imo.

Thanks for coming back just for me and Mendez lol

He's not beaten anyone to put him in that bracket, but theres not really anyone he Can beat on that level. Beterbiev perhaps, but Haymon and injuries are wrecking this monster. Stevenson i dont rate at all. Hes as much a linear champ as Canelo

He beat Hopkins by outboxing him. A lot of that had to do with Hopkins terror of what he felt. And there cant be too many who wouldnt feel the same. But he didnt just wade in there and do what he did in round 12, he boxed the boxer

Kovalev combines savage power with springy unpredictable in and out speed, and very good skills. For such a savage puncher he feints and fights cautiously (until he catches you... then rarely do you see a fighter so eager to sprint across the ring and destroy the guy)

That combination gives anyone in your list a lot to think about

The Ward fight will reveal a lot. If Ward beats him then all the talk flies out the window. But if he destroys him - which i'm convinced he will - it'll be interesting to see how he's re-evaluated
