Joe had something Wlad will never have. An ATG win and his zero intact. He also never resorted to cheating to win.
Wlad had a rematch clause on Sanders. He never exercised it. Peter wasn't a tough fight for Chambers and he nearly lost to James Toney
Wlad had to hug the **** out of Peters both times. Vitali and Helenius boxed him off cleanly and much easier than Wlad could.
In the end though, Povetkin, Thompson, Mormeck, Haye, Peter, Chambers, Chagaev, Rahman, Ibragimov, Brewster and Byrd doesn't look bad does it? Plus a bunch of ****-heels. I mean, some of these wins are compromised a bit by x or y, sure, but if you compare it to Terrell, say, it's better, isn't it? And if you allow that, not to your satisfaction, but under the rules of boxing as they work in the real world, he's gone unbeaten for a great number of years and fights, that enhances his standing, doesn't it? I mean that's all fair to say, isn't it?
Not worthy enough to be labeled top 10 greatest HW to ever live. Two best guys there are Haye and Povetkin. Haye was a career cruiser and still is not an established HW. He wasn't confidant enough to fight Tyson Fury. He had to bend the rules every minute of every round to beat Povetkin. Valeuv would of went unbeaten if he fought like that.
I hear you on that, I do, I think top 10 is a bit of a stretch myself because i have a problem with he and Vitali cutting about at the same time but obviously unable to fight. I don't excuse that. But you worry me that you won't be able to accept this truth should it come, which it might.
I think Wlad will always polarise opinion regarding a top 10 placing. I can see a day, maybe already, when more than not have him in that esteemed list. Personally I don't see it, but I can see that day arriving.
Why did you not see things so simply, when you were not confronted with the reality, of Calzaghe getting into the Hall? You really think that the Hall will turn Wald away?
1. Joseph Louis 2. Muhammad Ali 3. Rocky Marciano 4. Lennox Lewis 5. Jack Dempsey 6. George Foreman 7. Mike Tyson 8.Joe Frazier 8. Evander Holyfield 9.Jersey Joe Walcott 10. Larry Holmes 11.Jim Jeffries 12. Jack Johnson 13. Ezzard Charles 14. Sonny Liston 15. Max Baer 16. Max Schmeling 17. Floyd Patterson 18. Riddick Bowe 19. Sam Langford 20. Gene Tunney I do not rate until retired but if Vitali is retired I would put him in the middle somewhere, I think that he had 2 loses while not yet in his prime and an injury took 4 years from him but he still has some excellent wins and longevity. If we look at George Foreman his early career had some big wins and bad losses and he had more savvy in his comeback but still its a compilation of the 2 careers that gives him status
"And those voting were born around the same time Louis was." This is confusing. If they were born at the same time Louis was, they hadn't seen the older champions except perhaps on film. They wouldn't have reached adulthood until the 1930's or so. So why should we value their opinion above all others? "Ali" I mentioned that this was mid-career and so dismissed making an issue of Ali's rating. "You have to give it some weight." I would, but if anyone in the 1950's or 1970's is actually in a position to remember fighters like Jeffries and Fitz, they had to be very old men relying on very old memories. I think memories are fallible, and probably the more years that have gone by the more fallible the memory. Bottom line for me--I don't find this list persuasive for the reasons I gave.
