You're a nuthugger. Actually, the list is limited to fighters who are no longer active at the weight. Still, the DLH fight is his biggest win at 147, and the losses to Forrest kind of hurt his standing in these types of endevours, since his body of work at '47 isn't quite as extensive as it is at lightweight. Rodriguez, Cokes, Starling, Brown, and a few others are also worthy of consideration. 147 is DEEP.
Ah, i understand that... You are right though, Mosley didnt fight top competition when he was there... (But he definetly tried).. H2H i think he matches up well with a lot of people, just because of his amazing natural ability.. But, unfortunatly, there is always the long, stiff jabs...(Sounds gay, but they are Mosleys biggest weakness...)
Matt, let's hear about some of the ATG fighters that you would pick Shane to beat. Guys on my list or one of the others in this thread.
Off the bat, i think Mosley could take Duran.. Im sure not many will agree, but they could both be lured into a slugfest, and i just see Mosley coming out on top because of his reflexes and handspeed.. Im sure if i sit here and think for a while id get some more, but i dont feel like trying to think about all the styles, and you got some old timers i;ve never seen on there as well.. Oh yeah, i think he takes ODLH H2H as well, :rofl
Against fighters in my Top 10: I think he takes one out of three against Griffith, and any fight against Gavilan would be pretty close, as well. He and Basilio match up rather well, and any fight would be riveting to watch. He probably beats Walcott...and aquits himself honorably in defeat against the rest.
One thing about Mosley at welterweight, his hands were quicker than at lightweight. It's a myth he was quicker at lightweight. Mosley has admitted over the last few years he was boiling himself down to lightweight when he was always a natural 140lb fighter. Its amazing what the move to welterweight done for his speed. Watch his first title fight against Holliday at lightweight then fast forward to his welterweight days against Rivera, De La Hoya, and Taylor. You'll be shocked at the difference in speed. Mosley had Leonard like speed at welterweight.
I agree that Mosley has a very very good chance v Duran. But when it boils down to picks I pick Duran. Mosley is a very fine fighter, but I feel he'd come up short against most of these guys. He could probably do Bassilo though.
Watch his fight with Willy Wise, there were punches i didnt even see in that fight... With him and ODLH in the same ring, **** looked like it was in fast forward the whole fight.. I also thought he could top Walcott(because with the little ive heard of the guy he seems stubborn(that and isnt he kind of short as opposed to Mosley being kind lanky at welter..), didnt know much about the other dudes though.. But yeah, im not one of the people who said he had faster hands at lightweight, although if i did id be a pretty shitty fan seeing as how hes my favorite of all time haha..
How can anyone rank Trinidad over Burley? His best win was a MD/robbery over De La Hoya, who doesn't even make most people's lists (although DLH should sneak into the bottom 20, at the very least). Wins over Vargas, Reid, Joppy, etc. were not at welterweight. Burley didn't do the bulk of his good work at welterweight, either, but at the very least he did more there than Trinidad. H2H Trinidad fairs even worse than Burley does. I'm not even a fan of old fighters, I just can't see the reasoning for putting Trinidad as high as #11 on a list like this, over guys like DLH (who arguably beat him + did much more work in the division) and Burley, who, although a far superior middleweight with a small body of work at welterweight, certainly beat more contenders than Trinidad did. He had a long title reign, but so did guys like Antonio Margarito. Trinidad is mostly hype, though, so maybe it's to be expected.
Care to expand on that? What more exactly, did Burley accomplish at welter than Tito? Even if you include Burley's fights just above the welter limit, I think it would still be hard to make a case for him being above Trinidad, given his inconsistency there.
Is Trinidad doing more based purely on the fact he happens to fight in an era of 4/5/10 champs per division?
Well, forgetting he even held a title, he won 4 or 5 rounds off DLH and has a convincing win over a faded Whitaker, which are probably worth more than a win over the up and down like a yoyo Cocoa Kid, which is the only thing Burley has to show for his welter resume.
Wasn't it the Cocoa Kid that was going down like a yo-yo not Burley? Maybe that's who Trinidad modelled his welterweight title reign on? :good
