Good point, but Burley's career is full of 'ifs and buts'. He deserves his high rating based on CV but we don't know whether he'd have been a dominant champ.
This is true - but you have to go with what you believe, right? You gather what info you can and then you do your best with what you have. My position is that Burley is one of the best ever, I think it's defendable, although you have to relly heavily upon testimony of others. As you say, you must be carefully of any rose coloured spectacles, it's a difficult business. EDIT: Put it this way, there are two things on my list people are interested in - Napoles spot and Burley's spot. I'm going to address the Napoles thing, but i'm perfectly happy with Burley's position.
Jose Napoles and Gavilan deserve to be higher Langford doesn't deserve to be there, good to see Holman Williams getting a mention.
I wonder though, are there many guys on that list you pick to beat Langford? Under perfect conditions? It's impossible to beat Williams to beat him, for example.
1. Robinson 2. Armstrong 3. Leonard 4. Napoles 5. Gavilan 6. Griffith 7. Walcott 8. Basilio 9. Hearns 10. Ross 11. McLarnin 12. Trinidad 13. Whitaker 14. Curry 15. Lewis 16. Benitez 17. Duran 18. Ryan 19. Burley 20. Zivic
Yeh I agree not many would be able to beat Langford even at that weight and he did beat Gans and Walcott at 147lbs but that doesn't justify a place so high when you consider how long people like Napoles dominated the welterweight division. Its like Roy Jones at 160lbs This content is protected wise he should never be top ten yet he would probably beat a far amount of them.
Jones has actually been sneaking into my MW top 20 for exactly the reasons you state, the little sneak. Walcott and Gans man. That makes for a better resume than a lot of these other boys.
Kid Lewis, or Gavilan? I'd be willing to negotiate on the former, but the latter stays in the top 10.:bart So there. :good
Call me a nuthugger, but looking at a few of the people on that list, why the hell isnt Mosley on there, at least from a head to head standpoint...
