yep, Spinks lone loss yet was the only man to beat a prime Larry Holmes. one has to think how Spinks would of fought had not get psyched out by iron mike and how would of the Spinx Jinx effected Tyson, but he never got to it
It doesn't erase his fights @ 175, where he established himself as probably the best 175 ever. But man, did tyson do him in. I remember feeling so bad for Spinks... and that was just during the walk in when they met in the center of the ring. Spinks looked very much like he did not want to be there. Can't say I blame him.
Yeah, Spinks was a pure 175lb fighter. You have to remember that. At that weight, he was invincible, and against some seriously great LHWs.
Yeah but he was already a few years removed from his prime which was around 1980. And Spinks lost the second fight. :bart
Tyson should be on everyone's post 80's list (I can already hear all the teenagers typing how much better Lewis was)
1.Sugar Ray Leonard 2.Pernell Whitaker 3.Roy Jones Jr 4.Julio Cesar Chavez 5.Bernard Hopkins I know many will disagree, but I now rank Hopkins higher than Hagler, Hearns, Holyfield, Lewis, Spinks, McCallum. For me Mayweather isn't top 5 material at all. I would have Duran no.1 and Arguello maybe in there too if the time period in question was the last 30 years or so, as their peaks came slightly before 1980 IMO.
I think Hopkins is on par with all of those guys you mentioned Pacfan, though I'm not sure exactly where to place them all in comparison with each other, or how highly Hopkins ranks among them. Pretty similar quality of fighters IMO, with probably McCallum ranking last among them(which really says something about the quality of that group).
Says you. PBF is the best fighter of this decade and one of the best of his era. PBF has as good as case as anyone not named SRL, Pea, Hagler or Jones.:deal
