But what do you think sets mayweather / pacman apart from Canzoneri? I mean Canzoneri has better name wins on his resume, and that's one of your criteria, but hes behind them. Canzoneri was also unlucky to not be a four division champ.
I was surprised to see Lewis and Foreman top 50...but I don’t think HW’s fare well in these types of list or on mine. I would place Holy above Lewis but at HW Lewis comes in at 3-4 on my list and Holy in the 7-9 tier
I think Canzoneri has an excellent résumé but it's not enough to match both the Résumé of Pacquiao or Mayweather. Plus the 0-record of Mayweather's and the 8 weight status of Pacquiao there higher imo. In fact the modern era really helped these two as back in the 50s Pacquiao wouldn't have even competed at 8 weights and fighting every 3 weeks Mayweather would definitely not be undefeated.
In regards to Pac (but not him exclusively) you mention 8 weight divisions. How do you reconcile that with older fighters who did not have the bastar d divisions? Or with those who fought in the only 1 champ era. How many divisions was Pac a belt holder in and contrast it with how many he was unified in? Do you give equal credence to an abc strap as you do to a unified or lone champ
I don't see Holyfeild above Lewis at all tbh, the names he has on his record historically but his best two wins from that perspective were both over 40. Lewis obviously beat Holyfeild and was robbed in the first fight. Plus I like his Vitali win as much as Holyfeild's Bowe win. Tbh it's quite close but I pick Lewis over the basis over his Win over Holyfeild
Both of them have Del a Hoya (who's in the list whilst Mclarin wasnt although because I'm not too familiar with him) Mayweather also has Pacquiao and Pacquiao has the Mexican Trio. But all in all its still close
I guess I agree if you are looking at HW exclusively? When you factor in Holy starting at CW and perhaps being the greatest cruiser ever with wins over Qawi along the way. Then moving up to HW. You gave a lot of weight to Ali being 3 x champ are you consistent in giving credit to Holy (not comparing Ali and Holy just the criteria used) for that accomplishment as well. To me overall it is Holy and not really close, at HW it is Lewis and not really close.
I definitely rank an undisputed champion higher than a ABC holder. Title defences mean a while lot more in the old days than they do now, as does the 'champions beat' statistic
No way is De La Hoya better than a name like Kid Chocolate or Jimmy McClarnin, who should be real high on a P4P list. Canzoneri also has Lou Ambers and Jack Kid Berg, among others. Mayweather or Pacquiao don't have anyone like that on their resume. Read up on McClarnin, absolute legend. You'll like him (I think). One of the best ever resume wise IMO
Thats fair enough. I just think Lewis' has the Résumé and somewhat equal achievements with Holyfeild.
By that criteria is Pac (Mayweather RJJ etc.) really a champion in all of those divisions. I have a hard time thinking of Pac as an 8 division champ. 8 division belt holder yes, I also think some of his prime loses hurt him just a little.
That's all well and good and I think it's a matter of opinion but both of them have beat about 15 top opponents each and as I said the Achievements come into as well
Not only is DLH not a better name, he was also no where close to his peak and was a faded inactive weight drained fighter by this stage. A nice name, but not even close to their best wins when adding them up
