Graded on speed, range, power, accuracy, stamina to throw the punch often, and versatility of the punch.

1 ) Holmes. The gold standard. Accurate, fast, good range, and the ability to snap heads backward. Holmes Jab was always ready to go.

2 ) Wlad Klitschko. For Wlad, this is a power punch, and it can keep the other guy on defense alone. In his prime, it was fast, very damaging, accurate. Wlad could win most of his fights on the jab alone

3 ) Liston. Liston's jab was a nose-busting terror. A telephone-like a pole punch with very long range. It was not fast, though.

4 ) Ali. Ali had blinding speed in the punch. Like the others on the list, it was a long punch, but it did not have the power of those listed above him.

5 ) Lewis. Lewis scored highly on the range, power, and versatility, but sometimes pawed a bit with this punch. The speed was average.

6 ) Louis. Louis had a textbook jab with power and speed on it, however, his range compared to the others was rather short, and he dropped his right hand while throwing it, making an awesome weapon into a liability at times.

7 ) Vitali Klitschko. Towering size and long arms with some damage ability attached to it, Vitali could fire this punch all night and deliver it backing up or at awkward angles. Let's not forget, he out jabbed Lennox Lewis. The speed with the punch was average.

8 ) Tubbs. Tubbs had an underrated jab. Very quick and skillful with it, he was. Good range as well. If the only punch allowed in boxing was the jab Tubbs would be very hard to beat. Out jabbed Bowe and Tyson ( while the fight lasted )

9 ) Carl Williams - Though he wasn't a great fighter, his jab was great.

10 ) Tunney. Speed, accuracy, and timing were good, the power behind it and length was not.

    11. Norton. See any of the Ali fights. If Norton had a better chin, this punch could have shined more often.

    12. Bowe. When Bowe was focused, which was hardly ever his jab was a real difference maker. Consistency and stamina were drawbacks.

    13. Mercer. Similar to Bowe, when he was in shape and focused, the jab was very good.

    14. Holyfield. Holy had an all around type of jab, not great any aspect of it, but very good across the board.

    15. Thomas. Pinky had a great left hand, and could fire it rapidly. His prime however was rather short.

Honorable mention: Corbett, Young, Charles, Tyson, Moorer, Donald, and Johnson. Either lack of range or power cost them a spot in the top 15.

Hopefully I did not miss anyone and reserve the right to edit this list with more thought.

Sonny Liston's jab was frightening. His jab broke facial bones , shattered teeth and ended fights

I've heard things like this about Liston so often on these boards but I still wonder if half the things are really true or some kind of boxing urban myth that started with one person but has somehow spread on the internet like wildfire.

This guy didn't even include Foreman in his honorable mentions

The Wlad jab is not even top 10 , never mind the second greatest of all time :drooling:

How does Wlad belong in the top 3? Who did he out jab? Who was the best jabber he fought? Tell me?

The washed up remains of Ray Mercer bust him up with the jab. Mercer in the state he was in could barely move around the ring. How is this possible? Show me his best jabbing performance?

Triggered again Dino the dummy. You mean the Mercer who was on a 7 fight win streak and told me to my face Wlad was hardest puncher he fought.
Listen you don't like Wlad listed at 2 take it up with the thread starter cry baby.
Wlad's Jab speaks for itself, go watch some film. Bozo

Tubbs didn't jab with tyson, he tried to fight at close range. I think tucker Douglas and comeback foreman deserve to be on that list but good job otherwise!

Who did Mercer beat on this 7 fight win streak?
What was Wlads best jabbing performance?
Who was the best jabber he ever beat?

He was out jabbed by the ghost of Ray Mercer , Pulev and Tyson Fury. He couldn't keep Povetkin or Peter at the end of his jab to save his life.

How can he be a serial clincher / chronic illegal bear hugger and an ATG jab artist at the same time. How?

Wlad has had so many great jabbing performances it's difficult to select just one maybe neutralizing Haye? Or breaking down Tony Thompson? Maybe chagaev or Ibrigamov. All guys he controlled distance on with the Jab. Not to mention Byrd who was befuddled all day with it.
As for Mercer he didn't out Jab Wlad at all he landed a few good ones as he was known to do. Yes Mercer's 7 wins were against sub par opposition but he was winning and he won his next few fights after Wlad so he was not shot. Faded yes.
Pulev had a huge opening for the left hook, you're going to criticize Wlad for not jabbing in that fight shows how little you know armchair.
Wlad looked old against Fury a good mover with size and reach oh and Wlad was 39.

If he controlled Haye with a jab , then why was he deducted a point for constantly holding and leaning down on his back -piece?

Wlad couldn't put a jab on Haye all night. It was Haye's game plane to circle around on the outside and look for the right opening to lunge in with a 1-2. Wlad pathetically held on for his life every time Haye easily entered his wheel house.
It should have been Haye holding onto HIM. Not the other way around.

Ibrigamov ?? hahah. A fight where two mental weaklings poked postured in front of each other in once of the worst title fights of all time.

Chaggy? Maybe. But then again Wlad selected him after he failed a medical to rematch Valeuv. He should have been fighting Valeuv , not the sick patient to wasn't granted a clean bill of health to fight Valeuv and Haye.
HBO wouldn't even broadcast the fight and Wlad was dropped off their network once again.

Thompson? lololoolol. Wlad landed a whooping 36 jabs against Thompson. THIRTY SIX

Thompson landed 57 at a 30% connect rate compared to Wlads 22% connect rate. Wlad was OUT jabbed BY Thompson.
The fight was an ugly mauling fest with Wlad throwing and rough housing old man Thompson around the ring. To add insult to injury Thompson came into the fight with a bum knee and was slow as molasses. Wlad the overrated bum was completely unable to out box him and could only rely on his power

The Wlad jab is only a pawing range finder thrown from the elbow instead of the shoulder. There's no levels to it but a straight line and its totally redundant unless Wlad is standing still.
You'd have to have experience actually boxing to understand.
The Wlad jab is/was always the most overrated 'punch' in boxing.

Spin a yarn long enough and it became a truth.

You're the most overrated poster on here. Endlessly going on with hate over Wlad for YEARS.
I don't care if Thompson outlanded Wlad's Jab. Wlad's Jab did the damage and it blinded him for the straight right. An armchair like yourself that's never been in a ring wouldn't know the different uses the Jab can be used for or how to disrupt timing with it.
Wlad's Jab kept Haye away he was leery of jumping in getting blunted by the Jab and being exposed to the cross.
Your endless crying over Wlad is tiresome. Go put your knee pads back on for Bowe.
Anyone who doesn't think Wlad has an all time Jab is clueless.
