Golota had mental problems when he felt he was being victimised, same reason he quit against Tyson when he was doing well. Doesn't hide the fact he was beating Bowe comfortably. The exact same fighter gets in the ring with Lewis, look what happens. This "seriously past his best" is too much. Holyfield was in equal shape vs Lewis than the Tyson that faced Holyfield was, and on HGH remember. I don't get your point about Mercer. Imagine Ali - Foreman never fought. Would Foreman be rated higher for beating common opponents (Frazier, Norton) in better fashion? No. Plus the fact they did fight and Ali beat Foreman solidifies this, same with Holyfield and Lewis. So he has a better jaw, since when is this the ultimate bench mark for ATG's? This is HW boxing. Rahman and McCall are solid 230lb fighters. Dempsey was ko'd by Flynn in 1, Wlad by Sanders and Brewster, Tyson by Douglas, Norris - Brown, Pacquiao - Torrecampo, I could go on. It's what a fighter does after a loss that defines his legacy, not the loss itself.
Lewis was a big puncher, no doubt. But there's no reason to rate Golota very highly. I think most people agree, Bowe was washed-up after the Holyfield wars. Maybe the Bowe fights took a lot out of Golota too. And his "mental issues" only compound the question marks put on him. The Golota fights are a definite blemish on Bowe's record, but he's still a better fighter than Golota. Look at all the blemishes on Golota's record. Well, Holyfield beat the **** out of Tyson. Lewis didn't beat the **** out of Holyfield. Holyfield has been an "old" fighter since 1993 or '94. Lewis was on HGH too, remember. And bigger and stronger than Holyfield. No, a past prime Ali knocked a peak Foreman out in 8 rounds, and Foreman has a very thin resume in comparison to Ali. A peak Lewis didn't dominate a past prime Holyfield, and his resume overall is not stronger. I don't define Lewis by his losses. But they need to be taken into account. Some people give him more props for avenging his defeats than they would give him had he beaten those two fighters on his first attempts. I think that's absurd.
Please inform when Holyfield was actually caught (proven) using steroids? Oh wait, you can't! Because he wasn't! So beating an ancient Holyfield and a green Klitschko is better than beating a good version of Tyson, Riddick Bowe, Michael Moorer, George Foreman, Larry Holmes etc? OK, that makes sense! LOL
And stop hating on Bowe. Was he in his prime when he fought Golota? But you wouldn't think that far, would you?
I'd put Dempsey in the top 5, Marciano in the top 10. But regardless of their exact position, they deserve to be a damn sight higher than Tim Withespoon ! I guess Tony Tubbs and Pinklon Thomas are in your top 15 or 20 then. Ridiculous. :good
dempsey in the top 5. lewis, ali, foreman, liston, frazier, holmes , tyson would all take him apart. some of ali's contenders would ko him without breaking into a sweat. charles and walcott would both beat him. dempsey wouldn't get in my top 20, he's further away than david haye
