Thanks man. Glad you guys enjoyed it! I haven't seen Ali since I was a little kid, so I personally havent really had contact with him. Most of what I know is stories from my family. But I am very blessed and fortunate that my family was able to spend time with him, learn from him, and carry some of this values to my generation. Yesterday's crowd was completely new to me. I've never been exposed to that stuff before. But honestly all of it was secondary to the fact that we were all there to honor Ali.
A few other things you guys might like to know. Ali in private would say that George Foreman was the toughest man he faced. Ali had a real respect for him. Another thing is autographs. Ali signed thousands of thousands of autographs at home, and he would hand them out on the streets. Many people think his autographs were written by others because "Theres no way he could've signed all that stuff." But he actually signed everything himself.
Ah, this is the guy Gene Kilroy cussed out. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...es-like-Champ-Burger-chain-Mr-Champ-soda.html See this guy is BS. Ali never had problem with money. After his career, Ali became a full blown icon. There was a bill created in the 80's or 90's. Politicians were trying to reimburse him for losing his belt. It was a huge sum of money they were going to award him. Once Ali got wind of it, he immediately killed it. He really didn't care about money. Every time he went to a foreign country, the leaders would try to give him extravagant gifts. Mansions, cars, etc. He always refused it. The only time he cared about money was when he was giving it away.
Excellent. I was born and raised just outside of Los Angeles and I still get star struck when interviewing athletes and celebrities. If you can please share more stories about him, I'm all ears!
Thank you for this magnificent thread and these magnificent contris, Reznick:good. You are now my favorite poster ever.
There's a reason why the term "money is the root of all evil" is truthful. It's not entirely evil, per se. Money is paper fiat backed by the gold standard. $$$ is most people's god. It controls them, and the powers that be know this. Ali just rose above it and didn't let it control him.
You do interviews? That's awesome. Can I check out your work anywhere? And I'll definitely share more stories in this thread :good
