    Ali and the NOI was a perfect partnership.

    Ali was young, rebellious, and outside the box. The NOI spoke to many of his ideals and values about blacks having dignity, and power over their own destiny.

    Also, the NOI had the manpower to let Ali be Ali without fear of death looming around every corner. They provided him a support system of ideals, and much needed protection in a volatile 60's/70's America.

    The mafia tried to threaten Ali before they knew he was with the NOI. The NOI basically told them "If he trips and breaks his ankle, we're going to assume it was you, and we will come after you."

    In return, the NOI had a powerful marketing channel in Ali. And having the world champ in your corner is a great morale boost.



    My dad and Herbert Muhammad spent more time with Ali in a 20 year span than anybody else. This is after the NOI was starting to dissipate. My dad is christian, and not a single person ever tried to entice him to convert him to Islam.

    Also, Herbert Muhammad had Ali's best interest in heart, always. You hear a lot of bs from people who actually weren't close to Ali. They said a lot of bad thing about about Herbert, because it was Herberts job to make hard decisions on Ali's behalf. Nobody will ever know the sacrifices and hard work Ali's friends had to make to keep the ship moving.
