Basically I wear contacts , And no-one at my gym knows. I've got a fight coming up in September and have to do a medical this Friday. I just want to know the steps they take when performing a medical. And whether they take close examination of the eye like shining a light etc. Or do they just ask if your eyesight is good and then proceed to do a eye chart test ?
I've had a optician tell me it's not dangerous as long as it's a soft contact . I wear dailes if that helps.
Your allowed to wear contact lenses of a specific type. You pro or am? Whats the issues with ur sight?
I'm doing my first amatuer fight. My eyesight is really bad trust me, but I've wanted to do this since I was kid. So I'm thinking of saying my eyesight is fine and just doing the test with contacts in as I wouldn't be able to see nothing without them.
Your allowed to wear soft sport contact lenses in am or pro bouts. Its things like having odd shaped eyes where u can be denied ur medical.
Yh thanks , also wanted to ask during the medical, Do they just ask you to read of a eye chart ? Or did they do a proper examination by looking directly in the eye?
Its a basic medical examination. The doc might ask u to read a chart and shine a light in ur eye. The next doc might just ask u to read a chart. Like i say..its a basic med examination.
It was hold your balls n cough in my day. It is best to be honest though and declare your eyesight and ask the doctor
It is always right to declare any medical issues you have, simply for your own health and wellbeing, it is always better to be safe then sorry, always let the medical professional decide what is important or not.
Very unlikely to pick it up especially if medacalling a few of you and your allowed to wear certain contacts in a bout anyway
This is the official doc from ABAE... Boxing in contact lenses The guidance in relation to soft contact lenses is as follows;- The level of visual acuity has been relaxed and boxers can now wear soft contact lenses When tested in contact lenses, a boxer must test almost normal. It follows then that the boxer must box in those contact lenses. Boxers who need contact lenses to achieve the acuity requirements cannot box without the lenses in place. During a bout, if a lens comes out, then the bout should be stopped, is deemed to be over and the boxer losing his lens loses the bout. The boxer cannot box on without the lens and cannot be allowed to replace the lens. Where possible, we will do what we can to apply common sense to situations in order that we find more ways for boxers to box rather than look for ways to prevent boxers from boxing. As a fellow bad eye-site companion, best additional advice I can give you is to tell the doctor you have contacts in and heed his advice. From there see how you feel with them and if they cause you any bother etc, if you do well and want to progress have a look at laser surgery or an alternative.
I feel like I'm going to just not the doctor if I'm honest . As he might fail my medical as I would not be able to see at all without them. I really need to pass this.
Ive boxed with lenses in no one pulled me on it . Once wasn't allowed to fight for having a small beard though
If you fail your boxing medical for being half blind, its not all bad news. At least you could start a new career as a ref
