    Thanks,

To be fair, Holyfield deal wasn't as good; in fact he took less money ($8 million) and options to get a Tyson fight and it worked out pretty well for him. The thing is Lewis seems to get this pass as though somehow he was ducked and shut out for most of his career when he was just as pampered as everyone else.

If Lewis really wanted the fight, I'm certain that he should have taken it then.

A very intriguing match up that I have yet to weigh in on.. I think this would be a great fight!! This version of Tyson in my eyes was about 60-65% of what he was in his peak which would make this a close and tough fight.. My gut still tells me Tyson would win this but I have a ton of respect for Lyle who was as tough as they come and I can envision scenarios in which he beats Tyson by late KO. I think I will still pick Tyson though in a bruising fight in which both men get hurt. If Tyson cracks late and Lyle gets him I wouldn't be surprised but I still think Mike has enough left here to take Lyle out around the 6th or 7th round but if Lyle is still hanging around in the 10th and we are going 12 or 15(like in Ron's day) then Mike may be in trouble.. Tyson TKO6!!

Was this from Phil Berger of the NY Times? Both links you posted don't work
anymore and I'm unable to find them online. Are there any other links you know off hand that you can direct me to? Much appreciated.

the lyle holyfield comparison makes little sense. yes, both went toe to toe. but holyfield brilliantly outboxed tyson. smothered him. blocked his shots and countered. lyle traded with foreman. he didn't display the technique of holyfield.

tyson of 96 was not good enough to beat an atg like holyfield but he was still a very good fighter. he slipped punches, had quick hands, explosive power (see the 1st punch of 1st fight). rust made him sloppy and wild. but so was lyle.

tyson by ko. he's the proven fighter. who did tyson beat? don't take success for granted. in the 1980s he unified the belts, cleaned the division, dodged no one, and defended the his championship 9 times after beating berbick. it's only because douglas won that people recognize he was a live fighter. i'm not saying he was anywhere near an atg - but he was a contender - and beating contenders means something. people just take success for granted.

I go for Lyle. The Tyson of the two Holyfield fights would fold under the hurt Lyle would lay on him.

  9. yes, i think that even the tyson fans think that lyle would have a great chance to knock tyson out, but they never will admit it. this lyle was more aggressive than holyfield, stronger, he had decent speed, good chin, great heart, and much harder puncher, if holyfield had the physical strength to handle tyson in the clinch, lyle could do it any day of the week. really i think that lyle would give some problems even to prime tyson. if bruno, tucker, douglas, holyfield could hurt tyson, lyle might too for sure.tyson would hurt him too, of course, but
the difference is that lyle would get up to continue the war, i never saw tyson win a fight after to be knocked down.tyson had the advantage of the intimidation against his rivals, lyle never was scared in his career, not even foreman, he was in prison, and he was stabbed. lyle was bad boy. tyson would not have his habitual advantage of intimidation.

Lyle did **** all in history other than galiant losing efforts. Tyson didn't lose to that calibre of fighter until much further past his prime. Tyson KO win is the only reasonable prediction.

  11. IT IS ABOUT STYLES... IT PROVE NOTHING, JIMMY YOUNG PROBABLY WOULD GIVE MORE PROBLEMS TO FOREMAN THAN TYSON OR MARCIANO WOULD DO, BUT TYSON OR ROCKY WERE BETTER THAN YOUNG.LYLE WOULD DESTROY BUSTER DOUGLAS FOR SURE. LYLE HAD A GOOD STYLE TO GIVE TYSON THE HELL, A BIG GUY , HARD PUNCHER, HEART, GOOD CHIN, VERY STRONG AND MUSCULAR THAT COULD EXCHANGE BLOWS WITH A MUCH YOUNGER GEORGE FOREMAN DURING 5 ROUNDS. AND LYLE DID HIS PRO DEBUT IN HIS 30s, he never saw a prime lyle.

Like Frank Bruno could? Lyle is on a level of Bruno.

Lyle wins. He´s a 70s fighter and this alone makes him superior to Tyson. Prime Tyson of ´88 would perhaps stand a small chance but the seventyness of Lyle would be too much for him most of the time.

  14. please are you serious? Lyle had better chin than glass bruno by a mile.... BRUNO WAS A BIG GUY, VERY STRONG, VERY MUSCULAR LIKE LYLE, HARD PUNCHER, DECENT FIGHTER, BUT HE HAD A WEAK CHIN.
