What are the great myth's in Boxing you have heard. Do You Feel there true...they could be something you believe and others :huh:rofl at. It could be a myth you thinks absolute crap but others truly believe. Put it out there lads. For Example: Frank Maloney on the Late Darren Sutherland after signing him he mentioned that he had it all and that what he looks for in a fighter to go far is Big Feet Big Neck and Big Hands. Now Frank Warren replied in his collum days later and made a joke of the comment. What about the Cooper-Ali fight with the glove incident...fights tinged with controversy from the past. So what Myth's or Truths can you add to this thread and debate about....it could be about a fighter..a fight....maybe a trainer...or could stem back to your glory days in the gym with your trainers.
Big neck does make a difference in absorbing the shock of a punch according to some scientists. A short and thick neck is the best, a long and thin neck is the worst. I don't think feet size has much relevance to anything... Hand size makes a small difference IMO, but is a small factor compared to many other factors that make up punch power. Small hands is probably worse for hand injuries.
I personally agree with all what you said TFFP on the neck being big but in saying that shots to the temple still can knockout a guy with a strong thick neck but with shots to jaw and front of face the strong neck helps absorb the shot and stop the head from rolling back. I believe in big calves helping punch resistance as well. Size of feet....my thinking of what Maloney is saying is that they can get you in range quicker???...that's all i can think i don't agree with it either. Maybe someone can helps us on that one??
Wayne McCullough had a nice long neck, and it certainly didn't affect his punch resistance. With that said his skull was 1/3 thicker than the average man so that possible makes that point irrelevant.
Willie Pep never won a round without throwing a punch the ali vs Cooper incident is bull**** ill think of more
The Willie Pep think against Jackie Graves isn't true. He threw **** all in the round that they myth has grown around, it was 95% faints and movement, but winning a round without throwing a punch never happend. I guess the biggest myth/truth/whatever that first fascinated me was the 'Phantom Punch' incident. For the record I don't believe it was a legit KD. The 2 wins over Liston are bull**** IMO. Not saying he couldn't have beaten him straight up but Liston was bought and paid for at that stage
Another favourite is that chuck wepner fought like a warrior and knocked ali down , I have also heard that the rocky movie was based on this "fight" this fight if u have seen it is the biggest joke in the world wepener cant do nothing but hold and hit back of alis head sli is clowing through the whole thing, emabrrassed wepner for 15 rounds and kos him in the last the knock down was a trip blatantly but wepner slapped his belly as he fell over LOL I bet stallone never even saw it
If you lose a fight early on in your career you must rematch and beat that person otherwise you will forever be seen as a fraud and everything else you ever do phony. Take one example: Pac was knocked out by a guy This content is protected + This content is protected + This content is protected early on. Hopkins etc.. etc.. Losing a fight is not the end of the world and the whole ABC "undefeated" stuff has in some ways ruined boxing.
That moron, Danny Rand, on the GF recited that one at me today when I dared suggest that Leonard was better than Mayweather. It's amazing that it has spread to the extent it has.
It was started on the Pryor-Arguello Legendary Nights program. Leonard ducked Pryor to fight Duran and Hearns? Also, if you look at the dates, Leonard was retired by the time Pryor had finished his business with Arguello (1982).
Keep em coming lads. Some real good un's so far. Surprised no one's picked on BamBam's view on Liston-Ali that's a dodgy one...some agree...some go mental if you dare mention Liston took a dive. I do feel it's there's a connection but i think Liston knew he could of got up. Liston was a notorious gangs fighter by that stage so i side with BamBam on this argument.
