Aye, that's mythical and it's true. Some myths are.

Not sure if this one has been mentioned but here goes.

Apparently in the Wincobank Gym when Naz was in his mid-teens he was acting like a ***** towards Brendan Ingle after some sparring. Another teenage fighter couldn't believe what he was hearing so he told Naz to show a bit more respect. Naz then turned round and dropped him with a body shot.

The other teenager was Junior Witter.

 

how highly regarded was Paul?

He was only 19 so it is hard to say. Lemuel Steeples was the best amateur killed in the crash, a man who had stopped Don Curry and Milt McCrory. Tony Tucker was sitting in the airport departure lounge but decided not to go without his father, Bob, who was delayed getting to the airport.
Olympic coach Tom "Sarge" Johnson died, too.
