Your right they had different styles but both were speedy and rangy( Olivo at 5-8 Lopez at 5-5) for Jr flys. Lopez was more text book and harder hitting.

I saw the fight like over 20 years ago!! So i dont remember how i scored it i just remember thinking that Olivo won. However i saw at it at the gym with all of the gym mates and Olivo was a hero down there so obviously my judgement could have been swayed, as everyone else was rooting for Joey and thought he was robbed. Id love to see it again i cant find it on you tube.

I agree that it would be a tough fight, but i have no doubt that Lopez would come out victorious.

No problem with that mate, we all know how highly you rate Lopez and he certainly could have moved up sooner and been in the mix with the likes of Carbajal and Gonzalez. I think he stops Gonzalez.

Addie how you gonna tell me? Your a Boxing Noob! You werent even watching boxing back then!. Lopez wanted that fight, but Carbajal and Gonzalez were busy fighting each other 3x and on top of that they were with Arum and Lopez with King. I mean it took long enough for them to come to terms with a Super fight like ODLH-TITO. They couldnt come to terms with this fight.

Werent you busy getting potty trained or listening to your mommys bed time stories back then?:D

1993? I probably was, actually. I'd have been four. :yep

From the footage I've seen, and I own around 12+ fights of Gonzalez, 30+ fights of Carbajal, 20+ fights of Lopez, 20+ fights of Yuh, and 14+ fights of Chang, Lopez would have fitted in rather well and had his success. I don't think he moves up and clean sweeps like you do though. Chang beats him, and I give Yuh and Carbajal a good chance too.

Theres a possibility Lopez might split a fight with Chang but i still think Lopez is the superior fighter. Fighting comp like that even legendary fighters might pick up a loss. Style wise he would have the easiest time with Chiquita. Although i think Chiquita is equal to the other guys,he doesnt matchup well with Finito. Carbajal was tougher than Chiquita and might hang in there while taking a beating (but a miracle punchers chance isnt out the question). He beats Yuh in a tough fight, but Unlike Alvarez i dont think he has the power to give him as much fits, but he still gives him a helluva fight. Chang is probably the toughest fight style wise, i like Lopez but in a trilogy i can see Chang picking up a win.

Gonzalez had his fair share of tough fights with B level opposition, just as Yuh often did. Yul Woo Lee? Kwang Sun Kim? He was losing that Kim fight going in to the final rounds where he would score a last ditch knockout. This was a 5 fight novice. I'm a little more forgiving for these kind of occurrences at the lower weights, these fighters are having to fight pretty standard opposition a lot of the time, I could see why it'd be easy to fight down to the level of their opposition. All that really matters at the end of the day is that Gonzalez pulled out those two fights, and Yuh pulled out his, and won rematches with Gamez and Ioka in conclusive fashion.

Your underestimating Kim he was a former gold medalists and like a Kostya Tszyu was capable of fighting at a high level in the pros with not many pro fights. You should already know that especially in the small weight division World class amatuers are capable of competing at a championshiop level. Gonzalez beat up Chang:D

I already knew Kim was a world class Amateur fighter, but that doesn't guarantee you success in the professional ranks. Kwang Sun Kim wasn't nearly as decorated as Olivo, and yet you criticize Yuh for scraping past him.

Gonzalez beat up a dead and buried Chang who came back for the money.

True he wasnt as decorated as Olivo, but big difference is Chiquita stormed back to score a ko on kims home turf. Yuh pulled out a controversial decison in his own backyard.

Chang wasnt as washed up as you say:nono He came back to fight Chitalda and Kittikasum on just about even terms. But got whupped by Chiquita.

I see cases for both guys.

Lopez can controll the range very well and use his better mobility to keep Yuh off balance with long straight shots, but Yuh has a fairly good defence and I can see him tucking up well and getting inside and turning up the heat on Lopez and dominating in close.

Tough fight to pick. I'd say Lopez gun to head.

Not really Critcizing him because Olivo was a helluva a fighter. More like pointing it out, when people rave about him. I dont think he scraped by Olivo. From i remember Olivo deserved to win that fight. :thinkThink about it split decision on Yuhs hometur?

Yuh is not actually THAT highly regarded in Korea you know. Not as bad as Chong-pal Park who was seen as a bit of a joke by many, but i get the feeling Yuh was mostly seen by the hardcore boxing fan as a hard working, likeeable, but not particularly talented champion who struggled often.

The knowledgeable fans that i have come across are pretty harsh on their fighters.I get the feeling fighters like Marquez, Morales who have only rarely been dominant would not go down too well either.

Marquez is a little underappreciated but Morales is very popular among Mexican fans.

I agree, Yuh could come through in one of them fights where you're only believing it because you're watching it, eating shots and imposing himself more and more as the fight goes on. I lean towards Lopez as it is though, he will be able to do the scoring with the skills he posesses after all, so it's a tight one for me but Lopez is my pick
