Nacho talks about Oscar

    I understand that, and that is the actual point.

    A fighter shouldn't be at the weight so early. They should work their way down to it, and make their target around the weigh-in. I've never heard of a fighter cutting so much weight so early. It's detrimental as it makes them weak, and dehydrated. This is proven by Oscar having an IV in before the fight.

    But who cares, hopefully Oscar retires, he's past it anyway.

    Didn't have problems with weight? He was 145 at weigh-in and could only gain 2 lbs at fight night. He was so dehydrated that they had to hook him up to an IV before and after the fight. Who is in charge here, the nutritionist or the trainer? Bottom line, Oscar should've weight around 160 on fight night, not 147. That was just plain ******ed on their part. And anyone that knows anything about Oscar is that he's not very good at seeing things in the ring and making adjustments himself and he needs his trainer to point these things out to him. The good thing is that he's a good listener for the most part. The bad thing is when his trainer is not giving him the proper advice. That's what he pays them to do (and probably why he's been through so many different trainers). Nacho dropped the ball on this one. The bulk of the blame, outside of Oscar himself, lies on him.

    In an interview i heard oscar said that they wanted to reach the weight early so that he have more time to adjust to the weight. He said that he felt weak at first but after a couple of days he felt good and even said that it help him in the speed department.

    Draining 10-15 pounds is a bit extreme, but draining 5-7 pounds, yes.

    In the case of Pacquiao who could make the weight easily, of course it doesn't apply. But for a naturally bigger fighter who hasn't been at the weight for a long time, they need to do it gradually.

    In fact I'm pretty sure Roach said the same thing... I guess he's crazy too.

    Roach did say it. There's a video of him saying it in a thread here about him wanting Floyd to unretire. Just about every fighter in the game is able to make weight and re-hydrate at least 10 additional lbs to their actual size come fight night. It obviously didn't work for Oscar. in fact, can you name me some fighters that only put on 2 lbs after weigh-in that are successful?

    "I was thrilled... let's face it, fighters are at weight 5 minutes before the scales. Then they rehydrate 5 minutes after. Saying being at weight for a month so you're used to being at that weight, that's bull****. Fighters make weight the last day, and then go back up and get strong..."

    If you've been at that weight for weeks, how can you possibly rehydrate to anything higher? You can't, unless you're dehydrated the entire time, which is just dangerous.

    I think you're right when they lose too much weight. Losing an enormous amount of weight the day of the weigh-in will make them dehydrated. But there are certain amounts that are healthy.

    Floyd is a natural 47 lb'er. Oscar's stomach probably shrank, that's why he felt full quicker.

    I've tried that Atkins Zero carbs diet before, and it's very effective in losing a lot of weight.

    1 month of that diet, and losing 10+ pounds, with minimal exercise is very easy. So, imagine how much weight you can lose if you combine it with exercise.

    Maybe that's what Team Golden Boy did.

    But the drawback was, my physical strength deteriorated a bit.

    I decided to add exercise to my diet to lose more weight, and I did some light free weights, jumprope and biking. I could still ride a bike for a few miles, easy, and I could jump rope OK. The dumbells were nice, I could feel my shoulders, chest and arms tone very nicely. I felt light, and I felt good.

    But I noticed I lost some of my strength. When I played basketball, I had to put extra effort to shoot 3 point shots. It used to be kinda easy for me to throw long shots, but my body felt a bit weak.

    Doing any kind of explosive, high twitch muscle fiber exercise can expose how much strength I lost.

    There were also times when I felt dizzy and on the verge of blacking out.

    I dont know, maybe that's what happened to Oscar.
