And that 1 loss came vs Lamotta about 3/4 yrs before Ray became welterweight champion & Jake outweighed him by 16 lbs.
Lamotta started as a Lt-HWT & had to boil down to MWT, he was truly a bull + Ray beat him once before that loss & 4 times after that loss.
The only time they ever fought for a title & the only time they fought more than 12 rds & the only time they fought since Ray became WWT champion was their last fight in 51.... & that was the only time there was a stoppage... it came in rd 13.

I think its safe to say that Robinson was just about as unbeatable as can be in his prime, he never lost to a WWT & never lost a fight from 1943-1951/52.

Agreed entirely. Ignore all the haters. Who from his prime years wouls have beaten him. Perhaps there are some interesting match ups but i see him winning them all. A calzaghe with fit hands was a machine. he could do damge when he sat down in his punches. Add that to the speed, ring savvy, heart, chin, workrate and stamina. He'd have given everyone hell. Thats my opinion and i'm entitled to it. if you dont like it sod off

I'm both a Leonard fan and a Duran fan . . . but you know their names should not be here in this arguement.

Question is . . . "no other fighter could beat in their prime" . . . well . . . they have loses to each other during their prime. :D

It's too bad that right before Armstrong hit his peak, the champs basically said to hell with the titles at 130 and 140.

    Imagine Armstrong having the titles at 126, 130, 135, 140, and 147.

Its too easy to say Roy Jones imo.

Yes Roy was a great fighter but you are going to look even better if you are fighting the likes of Brannon,Frazier,Hall etc.

Its like putting Mayweather in their with Gatti month after month, he is going to look spectacular, and Gatti is a better fighter than any of those guys.

To me DLH looked a million dollars against Campas,Mayorga but there is a reason for that.

Would Armstrong really be recognized as champ at middleweight though?

That was only a 10 round bout, and only the California title at stake, even though Garcia was the NYSAC champ.

jones competition was not the best but at 168 NO other fighter in that division had anywhere close to those skills. and the point is even the best fighters occasionally lose rounds against lesser competition, jones almost never did. he won every second of every fight at 168.

btw: i take it you're an arsenal fan. i'm flying over for a few games in the spring:good

true but at that time the california regional title was the recognized belt. i think history would have given him the recognition

It was said toungue in cheek as always. It's hard to be objective in these forums. it's all based on opinion. I think time often clouds judgement. Most peolpe feel obliged to vote for fighters of yesteryear when there are equally if not better skilled fighters in todays era of the sport. Yes I'm a Calzaghe fan and was brought up with his fights beyond the eubank and benn years. Calzaghe didn't have the fights he deserved in his prime i know but is there anyone you could say would have DEFINTELY beaten him from around 04-07? there are of course arguements that can be made either way.

I wouldn't pick anyone over Jones at 168 who's fought at that division, since the division has been in existence.

I don't know about how he does against some of the fighters in the past however since some of the great fighters that fought around that weight range before it was a division. Moore, Charles, Conn, Marshall, etc..
