I grew up watching Eubank, so you know im a fan but i gotta call it the way i see it.

Eubank did have some off nights but then again he did have some good nights to, i think with Eubank it was whether he was motivated to fight because he fought a lot of guys like Cherry,Stretch,Jarvis that were not really a threat to him.

When Eubank was motivated he was an excellent fighter, that is why i think Johnson could beat him because he could catch him on an off night, and besides what misconceptions people have of Eubank he was not a technically sound fighter, he was a good counter puncher but he made lots of mistakes technically leaving himself off balance, and reaching etc.

Eubank was motivated when he beat Rocchigiani which was a good win for him because Rocky beat Michael Nunn, albeit a shot Michael Nunn.

good stuff:good he was lazy and unmotivated waaaay too much for a fighter of his talent. and like you said, he made some stupid mistakes that he didn't always pay for but would have against elite competition. did you ever see the special he did with lewis where lennox had to teach him how to jab??

But that was the Duran ov 72 who was still really a rough-en ready tear-up merchant, the Duran ov 74 onwards had evolded into the more polished pressure fighter/boxer (Thanks 2 Arcel/Brown) & IMO was unbeatable at 135 & also would have murdered any ****er up at 140 :deal

" he made some stupid mistakes that he didn't always pay for but would have against elite competition"

    Exactly!!

If you look at Nunn's opponents you could say he beat better fighters than Eubank.

    Nunn>Tate,Roldan,Barkley,Starling,Curry,Kalambay

    Eubank>Benn,Watson 2x,Rochi,Malinga,
    Holmes

But i bet some people will say Eubank was the better fighter at 160, not me but.

true, mostly cause people remember the toney fight more than any other. nunn was incredibly dominant before that fight but it was such a devasting knockout and lose that it sticks with you

:thumbsupgreat post. yeah, if he had stuck with arcel and listened to him...there's no telling where he would have gone. reading 4 kings was nice as it really highlighted how important ray arcel was to duran's career and the lengths he went to motivate him. when did he take over duran's training?

I recken Ray Arcel & Freddy Brown were more 2 do with tactics/discipline & 2 seperate Duran from the pack ov hyena's who were allways stuck 2 him & usually Arcel would be around about 3/4 before the fight with Freddie Brown attempting 2 get Duran in sort sort ov order around 5/6 weeks.

Duran knew he needed both Arcel & Brown on board exactly 4 those reasons 2 get a degree ov seperation especially after the 1st De Jesus blip.

Read "Hands ov Stone" all will be revealed:deal

Pernell Whitaker was untouchable (literally) in his prime.
