no...you just DO pick apart calzaghe's resume. you can pick apart both with equal ease.

so only fights "on the road" count?

so we can discount pascal...dirrell (which was a bit of a controversial decision)...bute...abraham (neutral)...

incredibly old discounts johnson & taylor (who was older & more shot than eubank).

what wins for froch are we left with? can't think of any.

What do you mean only fights on the road count, I said that's why I rate Froch, because he was/is willing to travel to fight anyone win/lose/or draw

Where as Calzaghe's resume is largely the product of careful matchmaking (he was obviously skilled no doubt)

I definitely wouldn't say Froch even beat Dirrell  but then I suppose that's not his fault

you were saying "when calzaghe did go on the road" as if that was important. if it matters for one...it matters for both.

    you're not really being even-handed...

& who...while all this "careful matchmaking" was going on...were the fighters he was "carefully matched" to stay away from?

Why hold it to 168, the only reason you would do that is to suit your agenda.

Lets take a look properly and make a real assessment of Frochs last 8 opponents:

Jean Pascal - moved up in weight and won the WBC belt of which he defended three times including defeating at the time considered no1 LHW Chad Dawson, also drew against BHop before losing title to him.

Jermain Taylor - Former middleweight champion who had lost twice to kelly Pavlik not long before, past his best but was still favourite going into the fight and Froch had to put on a great display in a come from behind victory.

Andre Dirrell - An olympic gold medallist and a very talented boxer, time will tell whether he will go on to fulfil his potential so juries still out on this one. Theres a good case for a Dirrell victory here but he probably lost out simply on negativity, especially in his opponents back yard.

Mikkel Kessler - Losty a very close decision to one of the stand out names of recent years in the division, been plagued by injuries since and will probably end up fighting Froch again. Only losses are against dominant champions of the division in Ward and Calzaghe.

Arthur Abraham - only loss going into the fight was a dq against Dirrell which many thought was a stage act. Abraham was a favourite again going into the fight (although not by much) but was dominated.

Glen Johnson - Always been a tough and ready boxer who has given a fir share of problems to guys like Cloud and Dawson in recent years despite not doing enough to win the fights. A solid win if unspectacular at this stage of Johnsons career.

Andre Ward - lost to the no1 in the division, Ward is an Olympic gold medallist and stands out head and shoulders above everyone else as we speak, no shame in the loss.

Lucian Bute - made 9 defences of his title, mostly against B-level guys due to him not being included in the super six. Was dominated from beginning to end by Froch.

The fact of the matter is Froch has fought everybody who is anybody in his division and came up 6-2 against them, all consecutively as well. No only this but he has only fought on home soil three times from the eight championship fights he has had, even travelling away from home when he was the champion.

Despite the fact that he is not the most skilled boxer in his division Froch has done enough to ******t himself the position of the no 2 or 3 SMW of the last few years due to hard work, willpower, dedication and risk taking. If more boxers followed suit the boxing world would be a much better place.

So what if pascal moved up... He still won a belt.
    Dirrell will come again.
Abraham should beat steiglitz for the wbo trinket.
Carl himself may beat kessler in a rematch.

So this entire thread could look very different in 12 months time or less.

I am a massive calzaghe fan but could you please remind me which of his opponents went on to do something at 168?

Being a SMW doesn't mean you can get judged only on that weight dumbass, it wasn't even a legit weight till 30 years ago and beating a guy who won a world title at a higher weight in his next fight is still a good scalp.

If this is just another thread to try and make Calzaghe look good it fails. I think he was a better boxer than Froch but if he had the balls to go fight everyone like Froch did and is then he would either a - have a much better legacy or b - been beaten up and not have much of a legacy. The fact is he played it safe for pretty much his whole career and therefore is known more for a whatcouldhave been than an actual is.

Come on man. Your like a scarecrow having a wank... Clutching at straws.

How many on that list were prime and not on the slide?
I ****ing loved calzaghe. He is a legend in my eyes but the calibre of opposition Froch has faced in the past 8 fights is exceptional.
I will come back to this thread in 12 months and if Froch's record doesn't look further improved, I will be very surprised.
We all have our favourites but this is boxing and we must appreciate the achievements of others particularly those who are still active and who possess balls the size of atlas stones.
