That's not true. He just doesn't have good punching technique like almost everyone in boxing today.

Don't get me wrong, at times he looks good like when he fought Gamboa, but most of the time he's throwing arm punches.

That can work great at a division where you have size on your opponent, but if he goes up in weight, he's going to find himself in the same situation as Velez last night.

Velez was a better boxer than Gradovich, but Velez couldn't hurt a fly. Like Roy Jones said, Velez was like an annoying gnat that just wouldn't go away.

While Crawford has better defense than Velez, quicker feet, and better handspeed, as well as the ability to switch stances, especially to southpaw which increases the amount of distance between each fighter's power hand, he's still going to find himself in situations where he's going life and death with every top guy he faces at 140.

That's why power is so underrated on this board. If Ward didn't have the power to gain his opponents respect, he would not be where he is today.

I agree, Kovalev's jab is much better than Crawford's too.

Crawford is probably the best current jabber I've seen. The only other fighters with exceptional jabs are Golovkin and Ward but I think TC uses his jab much better.

this tall guys like Wlad and Fury are getting away with jab smaller guys. Their jabs are situation. for example how great did Kovalev's jab look against a 50 year compared to the other ****s he faced

Kovalev's jab looked good against Hopkins and it has looked good against all his opponents, thus far.

    What are you getting at?

Crawford's jab is situational too, if that's the case because Crawford typically has a reach advantage over his opposition. I don't know anything about Fury's jab because I haven't seen enough of him to be familiar, but Wlad has a great jab, period.

Wlad uses his jab like Ward uses his jab and like Cotto uses his jab, and like Kovalev uses his jab.

    That's a jab.

It's hard to counter these guys when they use their jabs as well.

Crawford looks his best when he's fighting in the opposite stance as his opponent. This allows him to get even farther away from his opponents power hand, and since Crawford is pretty fast at getting out of the way, he can move before his opponent has an opportunity to fire anything back.

He uses his jab as a range finder and a points scorer. It's an arm punch though, which is why even though Crawford has a tendency to double and triple it, Beltran was able to counter him often.

At 140, I doubt there is enough on his jab to keep guys like Provo from attempting to close the distance.

It's not a snapping jab. Crawford is fast and he has good defense, but his punching technique needs work.

I think it's a mistake for him to move to 140 because he's going to get exposed if he doesn't make changes.

He may manage to beat Provo, but it will be one hell of a close fight and it will be an absolute war.

Floyd, Cotto, Rigo, Loma, Wlad, Kov, Walters, Ward, Mikey Garcia, and Lara. Crawford's opponents not hard to find.

The jab is overrated, and it is easily countered. You can't rely on it to much unless you have Vatali/Wlad type reach.

If Crawford tried to fight the way he did last night against. Mattysse, Garcia, even Provo. He will get laid out. He is to open for straights, and hooks. Beltrans arms were just a little to short.

    LOL.

    The jab is overrated? Really???

The jab is the best punch in boxing. The problem is, most fighters today have no idea how to punch.

And the ones that do, have no idea how to box.

You can use the jab if you're shorter than your opponent, you just have to learn to use it aggressively.

Mike Tyson had an excellent jab, and most of his opponents were significantly taller than him.

Pacquaio doesn't get much credit for his jab, but when he throws it, it's a hard impactful jab. He also uses it to set up his big shots.

The jab is and always has been the best weapon in boxing.

Floyd always jabs......to the body and head. He just is so good with the lead right he can mix it up and keep most on their toes.

But he sets up most of his offense off the jab which isn't consistent becuase Floyd isn't a busy guy. He is a counter puncher who likes to fight at a more moderate pace. Crawford is more offensive. But overall Floyd's jab is more effective even if throw far less frequently. It's more accurate and the jab to the body has always been one of my favorite offensive tools in Floyd's
    a r s enal.

I agree we should give Floyd and PAC the day off of being the best, but there are few with a better Jab than Floyd....Ward has a good jab.....GGG has a piston like jab that is as effective as most peoples right hands......Wald has the best jab in the HW division......Kovalev has a sharp jab at light heavyweight. Crawford has the the most versatile jab which he can throw from the southpaw or traditional stance.

Floyd doesn't always jab upstairs. :nono 80% of his jabs are on the body, and outside a couple of fights the body jab is a minority weapon in his ****nal itself.
