Name a established fighter that has less actually KO's (not TKO'S) then Joe Calzaghe?

And do you HONESTLY believe that had NOTHING to do with Hopkins?

Calzaghe sure did look a helluva a lot more impressive against a young, undefeated Kessler only 6 months earlier. :think

Calzaghe won, but Roy Jones (as usual) said it best. Joe Calzaghe can't call himself a legend killer based on this fight. He beat a legend, but he didn't kill a legend. All he did was affirm that legend's status AS a legend.

Calzaghe would have lost to his own shadow if he were not fighting Hopkins instead that night.

Perhaps they should go on an exhibition tour?

Good post... You also have to remember that Calzaghe has fought most of his fights in the UK after the Benn-Mclellan, Spencer Oliver, Michael Watson, Paul Ingle tragedies/incidents and there was a big anti-boxing movement. Fights tend to get stopped a little bit earlier here when one boxer doesn't appear to be on another boxer's level to save their health. That has resulted in a few early stoppages for Joe but I'd rather be sat here justifying those than having to look back at a probable life destroying injury suffers by one of Joe's opponents after being battered for 12 hard rounds like Lacy was.

Firstly, whos the chick in the avatar?

Dont waste your time here mate its an exclusive hate joe thread.
People just have to accept that joe is a lucky, feather fisted, technically poor boxer who is very easy to hit. He always has just one big kayo punch rather than lots of speedy punches that wear his opponents down.
Cant you find anyone with less ko's than joe? ha that proves he has no power
blah blah yada yada joe slaps, he wins all the time boo hooo.

No this is a thread that sits in the middle, neither hate, nor nut hugging like yourself. There is nothing wrong with asking questions about Joes power, this thread isnt about him being a bad boxer; he isn't!

For his (best) weight division, Hatton is a strong puncher who actually tries to knock people out and his actual KO % is high for this day in age. The quality of opponents he's KO'd has been questionable though... Hatton's a brawler type boxer who tries to put everything into every shot he throws. Joe, on the other hand, uses more boxing skills: things like a jab and a straight left hand. If only Hatton knew what those punches were before he went into the ring with Mayweather. Take nothing away from Hatton, I think he's a good little brawler who's exciting to watch, but I think boxing is about more than one dimension.

My point, that I obviously didn't make too well, was that Joe relies on boxing and flurrying his way in and is not a one punch KO artist. However, he would have had a few more count outs if certain fights were allowed to continue.

Yes, but it's particularly true in the UK that fights get stopped earlier here. There's nobody that can dispute that. Hatton is the exception with 15 KO's - not the norm.

Fair enough I do see those points, and I do take the Watson etc comments on board, I hadn't thought of that angle.

Having said that most boxers would get more actual KO's if they were allowed to go on, Joe is no exception.

Joe does flurry, I agree, that was partly my point. He doesn't really have the outright power to end by actual KO. I'm sure if the fights were allowed to go on, as you state, he would KO his opponent, but so would most boxers on top.

This is also true but I believe JC fights within himself. I don't mean that he fights at 80% but he doesn't put full power into his punches. I have to go back to probably the Mitchell fight and the Sheika one before that to see Joe tearing into the punches. If you watch those fights and compare them to the Kessler, Hopkins, Lacy fights of late, there's a difference of intent. Sure the fights I mentioned ended in TKO's but nobody will be able to KO everyone. If Joe fought at the intensity of the two fights I mentioned, he would certainly have a few more KO's on his CV. Not many more as he's not a destructive puncher, but 3-4 more I reckon.
