which is exactly why you HAVE to go with the evidence available -Joe fought at world level with Kessler and lacy. That's the only time when you can say he was DEFINITELY at the highest level.

I go with definites in life but you can choose what you want.

In fairness he fought at world class level way before that. Some of his previous opponents may well have beaten either kessler or lacy.

He does have some truly awful defences though.

As regards previous w/c opps, I can only really think of Reid, arguably a draw result, win or loss, and since Robin was between World titles at the time. Bika is also arguably w/c now. The rest were sub world level and often sub national.

Joe threw nearly 1000 punches against Roy Jones, show me a shot fighter that throws that many punches and ill show you Santa Clause.

The real thing to note here is how even after years of retirement, Calzaghe makes many posters feel insecure. How many threads a month on a fighter who hasnt fought for over 5 years?
No not one SMW in history on any given night would have beaten Calzaghe.
Even when after a long career, many are here mentioning a night late in his career where he looked sensational against an undefeated world champ favoured to beat him

it doesn't say that at all, but I can see how you read it like that, anything with the word calzaghe in it gets distorted for you.

    not to worry.

    Bailey is no troll.:nono

He is an educated poster that happens to have a different opinion than I regarding Jones and Calzaghe.

Joe retired undefeated, which is an amazing acomplishment... I think the reason people still talk about him so much is becasue he lefts some question marks..

I think he still had a few good fights left in him, and would have loved to see how he faired against some of the other LHW's not named Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins.

I didn't know beating Jeff Lacy was the standard on determining greatness. Thanks for the update.
