chuvalo, lalonde, shawn o sullivan...funny, lots of people are indifferent or like canadian fighters

 

No one could have hated Alexis Arguello or Floyd Patterson

i was talking to a Puerto Rican guy in a bar in New York during the summer and he didn't like Cotto at all. I was quite taken a back by this so it just goes to show there is nearly always someone who doesn't like a fighter.

For me the answer to the thread is Barry McGuigan- everyone in Ireland- Catholic and Protestand loved him and he was massive in Britain too and transcended the support. Genuine nice guy.

Remember Revolver? He posted about 100 hate threads about Louis, because he hated the NOTION of anyone challenging Ali for the #1 slot. You could get him to troll against Holmes, Lewis*, Johnson, Dempsey, Marciano etc. for about a fortnight if you picked them to beat Ali.

* He argued that Lewis had a glass jaw and almost always stayed out of trouble, then when shown the "Lewis had an iron chin" video, he decided that Lewis had an iron chin but was very easy to hit!

 

If you've been on ESB for as long as I have, then you'd know, that every fighter has at least one hater. Most have a lot more than one.

peter buckley british journeyman had 300 fights i think he won about 75 but how can anyone hate a guy that has served the sport like that.
