Saddler would have been a hard fight for Mayweather. Saddler was long, tough, had good punching power in both hands and dirtier than Hopkins.

But he was slow of hand and foot. Elorde befuddled him at 130 with some in and out footwork. Floyd UD

JCC and Armstrong would be my picks. Canzoneri might have had a shot, too.

Was Elorde any slicker than Pep? If Saddler was quick enough to give Pep hell, I think he would do the same with Mayweather. lol I just checked and Saddler was towards the end of his career when he fought Elorde the first time and he stopped Elorde in the rematch. I assume the OP meant a fighter in his prime.

PBF's performance in his fight against Chico was the greatest exhibition of boxing of this era.:deal Great speed reflexes accuracy power lateral movement ring generalship counter-punching and defense all at the very highest level all on display that night. A true elite ATG performance that would be great in any era. You won't find many guys in the history of the sport who would beat PBF at 130 on that night.

He stopped Elorde in thirteen rounds...and he used every dirty trick to bust him open and cut him up to force the stoppage. Saddler's prime was at 126-and while he defeated a past prime, post plane crash version of Pep 3 out of 4 at that weight, he still had trouble with Pep's movement in the final three fights.

Tall, rangy come-forward bangers like Saddler and Arguello have a chance of scoring the KO, but against the version of Mayweather that dismantled a lesser version of the same style I don't really like their chances. Quicker pressure fighters who can get in close and swarm have a better chance of defeating that version of May, imo.

Pep hadn't lost in five years and something like 73 fights before he met Saddler so he was hardly the walking dead. Like I said he was a dirtier fighter than Hopkins. Saddler would have low-blowed Mayweather to slow him down if necessary. It's all just opinion but I think Saddler would be the one fighter I would pick to beat that version of Mayweather at featherweight.

Zoo didn't fight at 130 dummy. If he did he would have been tooled even worse than Chico was. PBF > Zoo:deal

Pep was still great...and continued to reign after coming back from a near death experience. But he wasn't quite the wonder in '49 that he had been in previous years. He's got a chance of roughing up Mayweather...but, then again Mayweather was capable of using his elbows and forearms pretty well in close.

I will agree that Saddler's probably gonna have his moments; but Mayweather, based on styles, is likely to have just a few more.

Corrales was a much better fighter than Gatti.
