I agree that he possible COULD have. I dont think he would have though, I'm unconvinced by Vitalis knockout power. I don't understand why people keep saying Tua though!

If Vitali gets hit too cleanly and too often hes getting knocked out. I'm not trying to undersell Vitali's chin but I've got side with massive punch over granite chin. The way you beat a big puncher like Foreman is by making them miss and taking them deeper into a fight, not by standing there, getting hit and trying to trade in a massive slugfest. I don't even have faith in Liston to pull this off. Shavers might win one or two out of ten but I wouldn't pick him to win the majority, can't comment to much on Baer but I'm guessing its a similarish scenerio. Like I said however its just me, I would just take titanic punching power over the hardest of chins. Foreman himself had a brilliant chin.

No worries man, I've not seen too much of Lyle so I was primed to get down to some Lyle viewing after hearing he hit harder than Shavers!

Foreman cant slug for 12 rounds. He doesn't have that stamina.

if the other guy is willing to trade with him and make it a slug fest it will never reach 12

Very true. He could hit very hard when he was fresh. But in Zaire you could see his power starting to fade by about round 5. That's why he learnt to pace himself when he had his comeback - he was much more measured because he was aware of his limitations. But I don't know many people except Ali (who was probably one of the toughest heavyweights ever) who could take that kind of punishment. Even Ali leant out of the way and let the Foreman storm blow over. He didn't readily exchange. If you started to exchange with Foreman I don't see how anyone would last beyond 5 or 6 anyway.

that's as pure a slugfest as they'd ever come. To this day I haven't seen a fight like this were two guys are trading BOMBS in the center of the ring with total disregard to defense; actually, no defense at all, neither guy even bothered to cover up for second... always wondered why.

I see Vitali K being able to lean on Foreman and tire him out if he got caught. He might not have the same knockout power but I think he has more accuracy and thus other the course of say 5-6 rounds of exchanging bombs I honestly see him coming out on top.

Vitali lands more in a slug fest and Foreman wilts, in fantasy match ups I find it hard to argue against fact, Vitali has never been dropped let alone knocked out and in a fantasy brawl you have to give him +points on that fact. Don't get me wrong I don't see it being beyond young George to come out on top, but it is what it is a fantasy and if I had to pick a fighter it would be Klitschko.

Great topic though, props to thread starter, I like these threads that don't revolve around the usual boring shite.

Mumammad Ali.Fair enough he didn't exactly go toe to toe in there but it shouldn't be forgotten he took some enormous shots from Foreman that night, came through and knocked him out.

All guts and no brains. That might sound harsh, but come on. It's insane to fight like that. Why not, you know, box a little? Try not to just eat shots from a murderous puncher, perhaps? Not that I'm complaining. Any boxing fan loves this ****. I feel like all fighters are more safety first these days. That's smart. Not good for the fans though, who just want to see blood.

The truth is, anyone who tries to outslug Prime Foreman is working with a horribly flawed gameplan. That said, Lyle was close. Very impressive, especially when you consider that he turned pro at 30. He was 35 when he fought 27 year old Foreman.

yeah I have loads of respect for Lyle considering how late he started and how much he likes to slug it out. While it's not at the level of of Foreman/Lyle, Lyle/Shavers is another gem.

Tyson's speed & defense would give him a pretty good chance.
