The inactivity on Spence's behalf and the lack of quality recent opposition on Crawford's behalf is due to making this fight.

Similar to the inactivity of the current heavyweight landscape.

There seems to be a lot of cogs involved that have to work in unison to make major matches happen in the modern era.

    On par I agree.

The fact that you had to pull that out of your hat which happened over 40 years ago speaks volumes about this particular match.

It's a mystical list, not ironclad.

For starters, Spence whilst a very good fighter he should never have been ranked top 5 P4P and he'd never done anything to warrant such a lofty ranking, a lofty ranking so many have a afforded him for a very long time and I can assure you I have encountered many fans who have had him P4P#1 for a long time too. Many had him in the top 10 after the Brook fight I kid thee not.

Beterbiev vs Bivol is just as high caliber as this even given the fact Beterbiev is 38 y.o and that fight won't receive a fraction of the fanfare this fight has and their combined purses would be a fraction of what Crawford and Spence take home from this fight.

Both Beterbiev and Spence are one-weight three-belt unified champs, Spence has beaten more world champions than him but most of them were career 140 pounders who came up (PBC use this tactic a lot with him and Twink) or blown up 135 Mikey, light to average hitters, and he's only fought in his opponent's backyard once. Beterbiev has been fighting career 175 pounders, lots of punchers, on the road may times, and even the career 168 pounder he's fighting next was massive at the weight and one of the biggest 168 pounders I've ever seen. And Beterbiev has that KO 100%. But Spence is top 4 and Beterbiev isn't even ranked in the top 10. If Spence beats Crawford he would've finally done something to warrant a top 5 P4P ranking.

If we narrow the scope to southpaw vs southpaw fights, I think it is hard to argue that this is the biggest one ever.

In just this era I would put it on the level of Ward-Kovalev/Canelo-GGG/Floyd-Manny as far as level, pedigree, and magnitude

Now after watching that, please address your comment. After seeing what you just saw, are you still of the mind that Canelo GGG 1 wasn't on the level of Crawford Spence? Don't get me wrong, beautiful performance by Bud Crawford. But as a highly skilled contested fight, there's no comparison between what we just seen and Canelo GGG. Bud has the skills, no doubt, but Spence, not even close. Dude looked like a fish outta water in there with Bud. Bud wasn't joking about catching fish, Spence look like a minnow in there.
