Which boxers made it into the hall of fame without winning a real fight. The type of fight, where both had to give and to take.

Wlad Klitschko for example is a very good boxer, but he can´t fight. He´s just running and popping out his jab and if there is no risk, he is throwing the right hand. Every boxing match that went out into a real fight, he lost.

One day for sure he will be a HOFer.

Which boxer do you know, who also never won a war, but made it into hall of fame ?

Rocky Marciano, unless you consider his fight with the smaller Walcott a war.

Roy Jones Jr. Only thing came close to a war was him vs. Calzaghe, but only the first few rounds were close and 2-sided. Neither the 1st Griffin or any of the Tarver fights were real wars and Roy dominated the rest (and Johnson dominated him). He even admitted before the Joe fight he was taking on Calzaghe because of this, to be remembered being in a real war. Well, he got his war and for the first time ever, his face looked all bloodied and beaten up. Quite interestingly, he was all smiles after the fight, which was a little weird. But maybe he wanted something like this just more competitive.

Roy was in some wars late, and even early in his career he took on some monstrous opponents in Toney and Hops, so you can't really hold it against him that they couldn't make it a war.

Yep, you are right. Had to double check at boxrec, but Marciano and Walcott are about the same size.

Marciano's bouts with Charles were considered wars too. I've only seen some rounds of them though.

Thomas Hearns isn't eligible, he's a sure-fire first ballot HOFer, but I'm trying to think of a fight he won that was a "war". He so often KO'd his guys in explosive fashion in one-sided bouts, or outboxed his opponents handily.

Saying Roldan is a bit of a stretch.

Sugar Ray Leonard, while surely digging deep to come from behind to win some fights (Hearns 1, Lalonde), I wouldn't say won any "wars" either.

i would classify leonard-lalonde as a war/slugfest type of fight... some of the rounds are pretty intense

There's some I'd say that fit into the second category, but not the first. There's a difference between the two. In addition to Leonard and Hearns, also Pernell Whitaker fits the second, but not the first. He had some give and take fights with the likes of Roger Mayweather and Buddy McGirt. He came from behind to stop Diobleys Hurtado in the late rounds. None of those fights, however, come to mind when I think of "wars". The fights with McGirt (especially the 2nd) were highly skilled technical boxing matches with solid action. The Mayweather fight was entertaining enough, but I don't think of it as a war.

But all of them were either give-and-take or required rallying (coming from the canvas) to win.

i cant disagree but pea tried to go to war once (i forgot the guys name, but he was a kronk fighter and it was pea's last fight before he moved up to welter i believe) and the fight was terrible... his normal dominations are much more entertaining

Come on don't be a blind Wlad hatter he was down tree times against Sam Peter and he won the fight. This is something like a real fight or war if you want to call it.
