agree the finale was brilliant but i think because of the heat both fighters looked sluggish most of the fight

 

It isn't famous - but Cotto-Malignaggi was a boring clinchfest IMO.

Im probably going to get called crazy for this but i thought Corrales Castillio 1 was a TAD overatted, simply because it was mostly in fighting, i do like in fighting but i also like more variation in a fight.


Dont get me wrong it was a good fight, maybe because before i watched it i heard how it was meant to be the best fight ever, the hype ruined it for me a lil.

Hmm well it wasn't a brawl but a very good fight. No one expected SRL to fight like that against someone like Hands of Stones.

 

Duran rushed in into Sugar Ray's arms all night long with clubbing punches and sluggish attacks and the fight would always stop so that Duran with take some steps back and rushed in again. Very ugly fight with "Las Manitas de Pedra" showing how pressure and a good control of distance can dry a slicker, better boxer, something Hatton could implement against Floyd is he can.

 

I liked Duran-Leonard I because of the quality exchanges, intensity, and high skill level.

However, I didn't like it as much as a lot of others do, due to the holding and wrestling in it.

 

I'll back ya....to an extent. It was the end of that fight that was off the got damn hook.

 

An epic.

These things aren't always judged solely by the action, but also by who the players are, the history, and the significance of the event. And not always does the action live up to the event.

In this case, I felt it did.

I wasn't sure what Ali was doing laying on the ropes. Then in round 5, he came out to finish things. He flurried and shook Foreman, but the big dude wasn't ready to go. It wasn't time yet.

Three round later, he took another stab at it. This time, the goose was cooked.

...and the rest is history.

Nope.

I saw it about a week later. At that time, we didn't have a TV so I saw it in a relative's house.

It was all we talked about for months before. It got postponed at least once for some reason. I was in High School at the time.

I didn't care much for big George then. He seemed sullen and scarey, mean and anti-social.

Since he began his comeback, I'm a fan. He's a completely different dude. Like everyone's favorite uncle.

 

Foreman v. Lyle. Don't get me wrong it was a blast to watch but just a couple of huge dudes clubbing each other until Lyle could not get up. Could'nt believe the segment where Foreman was tossing little punches like a little kid or Loyd Bridges as Mendlebaum on Seinfeld. Usually KO's are climactic but this was just a grind down. Still, it was fun to watch. Now Georges KO over Cooney, that was something!!!!

 

The thing about this one is that both fighters were on the canvass and that last round was amazing but pretty much everything in between was very mediocre

There's some really old guy on this forum who saw Jake LaMotta fight Sugar Ray Robinson.

The first fight I saw (within days of the fight) was Ali-Liston (2) . I've seen most big fights since then (not too many live, especially since they began charging per event).

I paid $20 to stand in a big sports arena and watch Duran-Leonard (1) on a big movie screen. Everyone was talking too much to hear the commentary, but it was still an exciting event.

I would like to see a major fight live, but just for the atmosphere. I think you can see better on TV, but I can't say for sure.
