    For better or for Worse.

Mines is Burt Clements. He changed JMM's career for the better & made JMM an antagonist to Pacquaio.

Burt Clements, had a 113-113 tie Fight 1. His scoring included a 10-7 opening round because, he admitted later, he did not realize he could give a 10-6 round.

If scored 10-6, as the other two judges had, Pac wins
    .
"I just screwed up," Clements said. "I feel badly because I dropped the ball, plainly and simply.

I'm a huge admirer of JMM, but facts are facts. Without Clements screw-up in the 1st round, there would've been no fight II, III or IV. He would have been just another victim on Pac's resume regardless of his level of skill.

JMM's legacy IMO is the result of 1 major event: Botched 1st round score. With a loss, there was zero reason for Pac, Roach to consider a rematch. And he would have had to prove his status as an ATG minus Pac.

On the FLIP SIDE: Without Clements screw-up, we would'e been denied the right of seeing 4 fights between 2 outstanding fighters!

Tyson Fury faking breaking his ankle to avoid the Wladimir rematch.

Yes, he and his team admitted it.

Jarrell Miller testing positive and getting his title fight with Joshua cancelled, paving way for Andy Ruiz to show up on short notice to pull off one of the bigger title-fight upsets in HW history.

Damn. Thats a great choice Tramell. And very interesting to reflect on. How one simple mistake sparked one of the greatest rivalries in boxing history, and eventually, Pacs most destructive defeat, 8 years later.

    Very nice selection.

Another good one. Crazy how different the landscape would be today had AJ had his routine defense against MIller and made him look like a punching bag.

    He didn't, now a chunky-chaloopa is the champ.:ohno
Foreman got his grill & Ruiz got his snickers., How did 2 of the fattest guys get boxing endorsements? One event: drug test per Ruiz' replacing & one punch from George-- That's how!

Eric Sloane going up against Tong Po... His brother Kurt begged him to cancel the fight, but we all know what happened that fateful day. Sometimes fighters egos are just too big.

For a guy that fought this weekend...

Haymon "advising" Quillin to drop his belt and forgo his big payday, to get bigger fights and paydays in the near future.
He then got ridiculed by the fans, went 3-2-1-1 over the next 5 years, never got hold of another belt and the big payday never came.

In 2001, Edwin Valero had a pretty bad motorcycle accident in which he fractured his skull and if I remember correctly he had a metal plate put inside his skull. So yeah IMO that definitely kickstarted the issues Valero had in his personal life.

@emallini was a promising fighter back in 1999. While travelling overseas to compete in his 3rd professional bout he was groped and molested by TSA. He subsequently performed badly later that evening in his scheduled bout.

The combination of TSA's thorough rectal examination, and the humiliating defeat he suffered permanently impacted his manhood. He was never able to partake in contact sports again.

In the movie "Me, Myself & Irene" Jim Carrey's character was based loosely on @emallini's story, in how a single tragic event lead to the drastic suppression of anger and the ability to deal with any form of confrontation.

The movie which was released a year after @emallini retirement from boxing revolved around a different series of events, which were non-boxing related, although it did well to portray many of the irrational psychotic symptoms @emallini still suffers from today as a result of anger suppression, such as long periods of passive aggressive behavior, and then short spells of narcissist rage at fellow members of this forum such as myself.

Personally, I always say life is 10% what happens to you, and 90% how you deal with it. It's unfortunate that a once aspiring fighter was pushed so far over the edge and robbed of a promising career - this certainly explains his rage towards successful fighters today that have come from a difficult background.

Let this be a lesson to us all.

    Norwood beating Marquez.

You could also say the Chris John loss. Both of these really delayed Marquez's career and lose quite a bit of esteem in fans minds.

Salvador Sanchez and Maso Ohba literally died as great fighters.

Consequently, we never saw a (potential) decline.

George groves getting stopped in that first fight vs froch..... I don't think he ever looked as good again... Still a good fighter but to me he looked like he had the tools to be something pretty special on the way up.. He had so much ****in swagger when he was undefeated.

I was absolutely buzzing for him when he won his world title
