It's nothing to do with hardcore support, it's to do with actual fame. Show me how Gatti was known outside of boxing fans.

You do realize that you can include most Boxers in this category right?Guys that are 100x better than Hatton and Gatti.

Because boxing is no longer front page in the US that does not mean that Gatti was not one of the most popular fighters of his generation.

His EA Fight Night commercial i would imagine was the one which would get him the most exposure. But like most Boxers he was not huge outside the ring.

Sorry but outside of Britain Hatton's overall stature in Boxing will not be as memorable as Hatton's.

But that's not what we're talking about, we're talking about who is more famous. Gatti certainly was popular amongst boxing fans, but Hatton is a household name in the UK, he fronts dvds that have nothing to do with boxing, he has been front page news in newspapers. Hatton gets bigger crowds that Gatto ever did, sold way more PPVs than Gatti ever did. Hatton is way more famous than Gatti ever was, simple fact.

Purely because of the era? That's ludicrous- so would Ali not belong in the HOF if he was fighting in this era? The Klitschkos both are, and have been, dominant in their decade. There's not a lot more they can do

I really dont think you have analyzed the HOF list too much,IF Mayweather never fought again he would still be 1st ballot HOF no doubt in my mind. Marquez is not second rate, seems like Marquez has been getting underrated since fighting the much bigger Mayweather.

He's not active. It goes without saying he is HOF material anyway though

That's true, but there's been a lot of pushback over the fact that McGuigan is in there. I'm hoping they will make the standards a little higher.

Re Vazquez and Marquez... I guess it all depends on how important you think their trilogy was. imho they didn't do quite enough outside of the trilogy, but certainly there are lesser fighters in the HOF, I wouldn't argue with that.

    If I had my way:

    Pac
    Holyfield
    Toney
K brothers - they can't help it if they had no great opposition, they've done everything they can and cleaned out the division and held it down.
    Hopkins
    Jones
    Mosely
    PBF
    JMM
    Castillo
    Calderon

-- all first ballot. Hatton and the others can wait til a weak year comes and maybe slide in. You can't seriously consider Chris John - a squeaker over JMM is his only real big time victory, unless you count Rocky Juarez. He's got a lot to do yet before he's a candidate. Hatton beat an old KT with a lot of help from the referree, a shot JLC then was a placekeeper until an elite fighter got around to taking him out. I don't know enough about the Thai fighters to give an opinion.
