People are getting ahead of themselves for two reasons here.

Firstly Fury is still a bit of an unknown quantity. His beat wins are over people of marginal world class credentials, and he didn't always look good beating them. If lost to Wlad, then went on a bad loosing streak, we might find ourselves picking a lot of older champions over him.

Secondly while I fully expect Wlad to beat him, I am going to ask him to climb up the ring steps, before I start discussing the merits of his great victory. I might even wait for the dust to settle on fury's career, before I finalize my assessment.

Your just naming anybody who fought at 39. Joe Louis and Joe Walcott were flat footed and little, Larry Holmes was fat yet solid.

Vitali yes, Holmes maybe, Louis and Walcott no.

Good point. Holmes still had the great jab and movement, vitali was still made of iron and hit hard enough and was aggressive enough to get the UD.
The short houses in 30s and 40s old men at 6'0 foot 200-210lbs wouldn't beat Fury past there prime....

I think a shorter list would be the ones who couldn't.

Lennox, version of Lennox that stopped Vitali would walk through Fury like nothing (he was 38 eve year later he would have easily beat him).

Yup he would have chance thats for sure, just remembering how hard Steve C dropped Fury, if George hit him once full power he would not get up.
