This should be thread with some very interesting examples.

Please don't name such examples as Lewis - Rahman (who was a contender), only real jorneymen who beat prime or near-prime ATGs.

    Wlad is a good shout.

Walker comes to mind. As do many from that era.

Jeff Chandler's loss to Oscar Muniz was a massive shock.

Scarcely jorneyman, but Rolando Pascua's KO over Chiquita comes to mind. Finally, Pascua has 25 L

Do you think Wlad was close to his prime when he lost to Ross Purrity? (who was his best opponent to date at that time)

I had to look that up. I forgot that was way back in 98. It could be argued he was 10 years away from his prime.

    So, I unsubmit his name.

Define "journeyman". One of the most overused and misunderstood phrases in boxing. Means different things to different people. What do you mean by the phrase when you ask this question?

You’ve mentioned something like this before about his “embarrassing losses“ in his prime. Are you referring to his two DQ losses against Wildcat Nelson and Jack Palmer?

That was indeed an interesting little saga in his career. Lost 5 fights in a 7 fight stretch, 3 against outmatched opposition. 2 of those by DQ, one by cuts stoppage. He was already pretty badly damaged pre fight in that last one, though, from what I’ve read. Still, 3 fights that were career anomalies all happening essentially in tandem. Rough times.

I don't think I called the DQs embarrassing. I have quite a lax view on dirty fighting. I have definitely called his losses to said outmatched opposition embarrassing before though, as he's often cited as a top 5 H2H WW.

But yeah, I think that's an interesting little bit of his career too.

First one I thought of was Nino Benvenuti getting stopped by Tom Bethea.

I met Oscar Muniz a few years ago. He is friends with one of my buddies who owned his own clothing store and he walked in one day when I was there. Nice guy. He was very proud to have shared the ring with Chandler and to have defeated him.
