    Definitely one of the worst. From beating Duran and a close loss to Hearns to losing to Mustafa Hamsho just a year later, losing badly to Davey Moore a year after that, and nearly getting killed by Matthew Hilton two years after that. In retrospect, he probably should have retired after the Hearns fight and maybe he wouldn't have ended up so damaged.

    Exactly. While 60s Ali would, imo, fall into this category, the genius of Ali - and what ultimate makes him as great as he is - is that he found a way to adapt to his loss of reflexes by developing other parts of his game.

    Came unstuck when he got rid of Brendan Ingle, and surrounded himself with "yes" men.

    Yes, that was certainly a key factor. Would have been interesting if he had kept the trainer that got him that far. My guess is he wouldn't have been good enough at the very highest level either way - but we might have seen a cracking Barrera-Hamed II.
