Yeah but Slack has a great story, as well as being one of the best of the early champions, and Taylor was one of the first, and excellent in his own right. Plus Jem Ward was basically known for being a piece is carp, who threw fights and let one of his fighters die. Morrissey was a gangster who got the title from a fight with Yankee Sullivan (who'd already lost to Hyer), and from what I understand got it due to Yankee leaving when it turned into a multiperson brawl. Bill Richmond just doesn't seem to have been that notable.

Matthew Saad Muhammad (if we're being honest).
I personally don't think Bowe brought that out of him... Ghandi might've brought that out in him. He simply had no mental fortitude and lacked confidence. Bowe didn't do anything in particular to bring that out of Golata, Gotata was doing most of the bossing and damage. Hardly something to hang your hat on if your Bowe
I disagree. .Golata had Bowe on the verge time and time again but couldn't close the deal. That frustration led him to unravel. He broke mentally because he couldn't close the deal in breaking Bowe physically.
Why Lopez? Have you seen him fight? He's an undefeated champion. Disagree here and with Cerdan, Chang, and Calzaghe Boxing has a liberal hall of fame. The problem is there is no minimum vote requirement. This is why a 1st ballot hall of fame enshrine to me stands out, because not everyone who eventually gets in is qualified. See the below link. It has some good points. https://www.si.com/boxing/2015/12/16/boxing-hall-fame-camacho-pintor-zapata-voting-process
While none of us know what was going on inside Golota’s mind, the most likely scenario is that he was just a headcase with a tendency to commit inexplicable fouls. The fight immediately before Bowe he launched a blatant and deliberate butt on Danell Nicholson. A few fights earlier he tried to bite a chunk out of Samson Po’uha. He somehow escaped disqualification in both fights (unlike against Bowe), but there was a clear pattern of Golota fouling in fights he was clearly winning. If you want to give Bowe credit for breaking Golota mentally, then that would equally have to apply to Nicholson and po’uha. Personally I don’t think the Golota fights tarnish Bowe’s legacy. He was clearly on the slide, completely out of shape in the first fight, and damaged goods by the second.
i think hes worth it NOW, but perhaps not at the time of his induction. However to not to put to fine a point on it, that one win over an ATG is WAY better than anything several "supersoft" inductees like joe calzaghe ever did.
Same here. It will always be contentious, almost as much so as debating ATG lists. Some will see more in fighter A than others etc. It's a nice gesture but i think it would always be somewhat controversial in places.
Jim Corbett, lol. I was at the hall a few of months ago and a friend of a friend saw Corbett's 11 - 4 record and said he didn't belong.
Miguel Canto was one of the greatest flyweights ever, so he should be in the hall of fame. Vicente Saldivar was another truly great fighter by any standard. - Chuck Johnston
