As in retired as a champion. I'm looking for permanent retirements, so no SRL, Joe Louis, etc.

    Examples include:
    Rocky Marciano
    Gene Tunney
    Lennox Lewis
    Ricardo "Finito" Lopez

Carbajal was clearly past it and looked old and faded against Matalal, also getting whupped against Arce before he got lucky.

    Most recently
    Ricardo Lopez
    Joe Calzaghe
    Lennox Lewis

Tommy Ryan retired as World middleweight champion, and while he did make a comeback, he was never beaten. Jack McAuliffe retired as unbeaten world champion and so did Jimmy Barrier both were undisputed all time greats and both got out of the game at the right time (like Rocky Marciano).

True but he had been on the decline for awhile already ability wise.

Where would you place Jim Jeffries (do you count the Jack Johnson debacle)?

Well.....Jack Johnson DID beat him, so it's a nothing point.

Gene Tunney is the best out of the ones previously mentioned.

nice list. Marvin Hagler, Marciano, Lennox, it is hard to come up with a list like that. Michael Spinks a little- even though he just lost to Tyson, I was surprised he never fought again.

Well he's not a legend but Steve Collins retired as WBO champion coming off of dual wins over both Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank as well as 15 straight victories.

Jimmy McClarnin beat Hall Of Famers Lou Ambers and Tony Canzoneri in his farewell fights but was an ex-champ so I suppose he doesn't count.

I can't think of too many others though.

Ernesto Marcel was probably not a legend but he went out with a win over a young Alexis Arguello.
