There are plenty. If you consider that there are 100 ATG's, as people commonly make a list like this, there are numerous towards the bottom end with a worse resume.
Lopez - a brilliant, dominant champion showcasing near perfect technique to go with his physical attributes and 0, ranked bellow McCallum is not something I would enjoy seeing personally.
Reasonably, but I think it's one of those where the weight is with Calzaghe and someone suggesting McCallum has to do a bit of work.
I don't think Wlad's resume is that bad. Pretty much every top heavy of the past decade has been in there with him, but the biggest name (Lennox) never fought him.
He fed on hapless opposition though, and McCallum was arguably a more well rounded technician anyway.
i wanted to know why he thought that macallum was better, i think calzaghe has a better resume and althougth some of the fighter macullum fought where nearer prime he also lost to guys i think calzaghe would beat.
Why is Wlad even coming up? He's not an ATG because he's never got past a B grade of competetion. It's a very solid resume right now, there is a lot of depth to it, but he's never met the standard of opposition that would catapult him into discussion for being an ATG. That and he got KO'd by average fighters.
I think McCallum has clearly the better resume, and Calzaghe would beat them because simply put, he was a bigger fighter than McCallum and his opponents. It's not fair to compare them in that way, but I think resume-wise Mike holds the close but clear edge.
I think he was a marginally greater fighter. I think McCallum would beat anyone who ever fought at 154, including Hearns. I don't think Calzaghe would beat 1994-96 RJJ at 168 or pre-Jones Toney at 168. McCallum beat Ayub Kalule, stopped Julian Jackson in 2, stopped Milton McCrory, stopped Donald Curry, beat Herol Graham, Michael Watson and Steve Collins, avenged his defeat to Sumbu Kalambay, drew with a peak James Toney when Mike was 34, and beat Jeff Harding. Better resume, slightly greater fighter IMO.
Had Lopez fought and beat Carbajal and Gonzalez I would agree with you. But he didn't. McCallum's resume obliterates Lopez's.
