Name me a better exhibition of punching than Whitaker vs McGirt II?

Chavez vs Rosario was a very good mention.

Yeah, perhaps so on second thoughts. Or maybe just a different perspective of effective punching? Armstrong landed a wide variety of clean blows that night even if it wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing display.

Ross-Petrolle is a good one actually - never crossed my mind.

Back in Feb. of '93, "The Barker" didn't eat any solid food three days prior to the 168 lb. weigh-in for his title loss to Toney........... Toney was infact well trained in early 1993 at 168 pounds, but his day to lose badly would also come in late 1994 when Toney, himself, was poorly trained and weight-drained against Royale Jones.........

I thought Sakurai made a fool of him at times, arguably taking the fight.

What's the confusion???????? Fact is, BOTH "Toney and Barkley" had issues' at 160 thru 168 by the early 1990s......... But them weight problems occured at slightly different times..........:deal

Besides, WTF is this gripe even doing on this thread? :admin

It was close for sure.Unfortunately Rose never had the punch to fall back on if he happened to be in a hard fight technically.Don't think he liked having to force a fight either.

I think the forum could do with setting a thread up to score controversial classic fights, it would be nice to come to some sort of consensus for a lot of them, especially now that it's easy for anyone with a fight to upload it for all to see.

Maybe do one every few weeks or something.Someone less sluggish than me would need to organise it though.

    Good idea.

I thought Rose snatched the fight by 1 or 2 points. Sakurai set some real nice traps and forced Rose to come forward Rose was able toit it out, but I came away more impressed with Sakurai. Ill have to rewatch it soon.

Was scanning this thread to see if anyone mentioned Chavez vs Rosario and you produced the goods on your first post. Nice!

    That's tops for me.

"Chavez-Rosario" is somewhat of a forgotten '87 classic..................... Chavez was the underdog going into his win over Ed Rosario.......... Granted, Rosario fought like he was *****-whipped and partied-out........... Chavez was on a mission........

    Cant beleive I forgot.

Sal Sanchez vs Danny Lopez I

Sanchez the way every punch is long and clean and hurtful as he switches angles. But Lopez isnt the hardest to hit.

:huh Gripe? What gripe? I genuinely don't get what you're on about is all.

I complimented in about two words a first time poster who made a pretty insightful and intelligent post regarding Duran-Leonard, Chavez-Rosario, Kalambay-McCallum and Toney-Barkley. I never mentioned Toney-Barkley specifically or anything such (even though it was a brilliant display of punching by Toney regardless of any weight issues).

    This is surreal....

I was trying to think of a fight I couldn't quite remember, but this has just unlocked my brainfreeze. Sanchez-Gomez.

Despite your deep analysis, I don't believe you've actually seen the first fight.
