he doesnt get credit because he had no business fighting him in the first place. you floyd apologists act like marquez was the only one calling him out for a fight. he chose to go with a guy 2 full divisions below him, who 5 fights prior, was fighting 4 divisions below him, and then he knowingly and purposely cheats him at the scales. whats there to be proud of?
castillo was a good win, corrales was a good win. canelo was a good win, marquez was a shameless win.

Mayweather has beaten some solid HOF worthy fighters, but was he's lacking is that one big victory over a fellow ATG type fighter.

    Ali had Frazier and Foreman.
    Leonard had Hearns.
    Hagler had Hearns.
    Duran had Leonard.
    Chavez had Taylor.
    Holyfield had Bowe and Tyson.

Its that type of victory that Mayweather lacks.

Kostya Tszyu or a 140 lbs version of Cotto could have been that defining victory for Mayweather.
Pacquiao before he got exposed by Marquez would definitely have been that huge victory for Mayweather.

The opportunity as far as time frame was there for Mayweather to have had that really big career defining fight, but he just never took those type of fights.

Mayweather's biggest victory imo was Ricky Hatton.
Depending on how Canelo Alvarez' career unfolds, that may also enhance Mayweather's resume.

So, by your logic, nobody that fought in Floyds era goes into the HOF? To be honest there was nobody doing what he was doing! Regardless of his so called weak opposition! Who in your opinion did more and beat better oposition during Floyds era?

I mean, you could argue they were all prime when he fought them.

Yeah, this whole thread is flawed. "Name ONE near-prime Hall of Famer he beat, but don't include Gatti ... who was ONE near-prime Hall of Famer he beat."

And don't include a near-prime De La Hoya - who is in the Hall of Fame - because he wasn't close to his prime enough.

And don't include a near-prime Marquez - who is a lock - because he hadn't taken steroids yet.

And don't include Pacquiao - who is a lock - because he lost. If Manny had won by KO, he'd be the best of his era hall of famer Floyd didn't beat.

And don't include a near-prime Hatton - who is a lock - because he decisioned Collazzo.

Basically, don't include any of the half-dozen guys he beat who are going to the hall of fame or the guys already in ...

    :roll::patsch

What was the purpose of this thread?

To point out how many guys Floyd Mayweather easily beat who are going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame?

I'm sure you said that about people who said Kostya Tszyu was going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as well.

So Pac and Bradley get credit though right? Floyd was away from the sport for almost 2 years, just to come back and fight Marquez.. You can call it a tuneup.. Yeah he weighed 2 pounds over the limit, which is like loading gloves to some people, which had no effect on the fight at all.. He should get credit for what was done in the ring.. He made Marquez miss everything all night while tagging him at will.. There was no way Marquez could beat him at any weight at any time.. 40 year old Floyd could beat a prime Marquez easily, but this fight don't count though.. Floyd cheated and Marquez was too small.. He drank pee, so it shouldn't count...smh

Gannicus is a really good poster whenever he isn't discussing Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Yes he tends to get a little emotional when Floyd's name comes up. Maybe he should stick to the Classic Forum where posters are more intelligent, more knowledgeable, more mature and, by golly, more manly as well.

It's not Floyd's fault that the only other elite fighter in his era was Pacquiao.

Whether it was his fault or not, fighters were there during his tenure that were difficult matchups for him that he didn't face, and whether it be his fault or not for the fights not materializing, the facts are that he didn't face them and that factors in to ranking him historically.

Tszyu, Cotto at 140 lbs, Margarito and Williams at 147 lbs.
Even the last couple of years Mayweather is afraid of facing a fighter his size with more speed than he has. Where is the confidence in his skill level?????

That's the turnoff for me about Mayweather, he's shy'ed away from certain styles that might not metch well with his own defensive style.

Mayweathers two biggest high profile fights is facing an on the downside DLH, and Pacquiao 5 years past its due date. That factors in his legacy.
