I'm a huge fan of GGG because I like watching him fight. But as far greatness he's got a long way to go.

GGG is not elite he is a world class fighter.

He will be elite when he unifies his division beating all the other world class fighters in it or moves up and beats another elite fighter like Ward. Until then he is not elite although he is a very skilled fighter with a lot of promise.

Floyd won his first title at Super Feather weight and has already fought as far as he can go at JMW on skill alone yet there's people on here saying he's not a great fighter but GGG is? Let's see GGG move up that many divisions and be effective instead of calling on smaller fighters! Hell GGG might not even be able to beat the best at SMW 1 division higher!

He doesn't need to unify anything.....he's already the best mw .......beating a little Miguel cotto means nothing....cotto is a welterweight .......ggg needs to chase fights against top comp ......ward, froch etc......he's fights commonwealth champions

Look I'm being objective as I can. You asked that question and yes the Marquez who put Pacquiao to sleep was not prime.

IMO his absolute prime was Lucero to Cotto. So 2003-2009. He started to gradually slow down after the Cotto fight IMO. Luckily he eased into a decline instead of falling off a cliff like most offensive fighters.

 

I didn't mean Cotto I meant the Ndam-Lemieux winner and the BJS-Lee winne, maybe even Quillin. Right now his best wins while making him world class don't make him elite. He is seen as the best MW yes but you still gotta prove it in the ring. That's like saying Kovalev is the best LHW and he is seen as the best but doesn't need to fight Stevenson.

 

What's the problem with him moving down to a division where floyd is a champ? Floyd is a two time champion at the weight right?

 

Well if GGG moves down to 154 he'd have to convince Floyd to get in the ring with him. That will never happen because Floyd will never do it.

And if they get in the ring GGG will be too big and destroy an undersized, old Floyd.

I'm sorry I don't want GGG trying to make his name off a Super Feather weight. GGG has been coming in fights at 172-174 and you want him to fight Floyd who has even come into some of his JMW fights at around 147-149. That's just ridiculous GGG should be looking for bigger challenges like good fighters at SMW and eventually LHW not trying to feast on smaller fighters.

 

How can you think he's weak? He went 345-5 in the amateurs. He won silver in '04. Where does your hate come from? Sturm didn't want the fight years ago. Cotto doesn't want to fight him. Quillen won't fight him. Who the fk is he supposed to fight? Lara? Who is a jr middleweight. Of course he's not lb for lb #1 floyd is and i don't see anyone disputing that (including GGG fans).

 

I agree that Floyd has wins over 8 HOFer, 5 of which are top 30 ATGs in their average weight class, Marquez, Castillo, Cotto, ODLH, and Mosley.

Gatti, Corrales, Canelo are likely consensus HOFers. Canelo, borderline if he retired right now with wins over Lara, Trout, Kirklandgood), Mosley(old, but ATG) and Matty Hatton being his top wins, IMO.

That said, Floyd and Canelo have the privilege of fighting guys who had fought through 3-4 weight classes, while GGG can barely get MWs into the ring.

He's not moving S unless there's PPV $$$ attached to the move, or N, for the same reasons.

ATM, he's a HOF and top 30 ATG if he retired after Monroe......but if he does go on and beat, 4 of ANY of the following, he will be at minimum, top 5 ATG MWs.....
