basically, KO artists who were known more for their devastating KO power who's boxing skills have gone unnoticed. for me, its julian jackson. while yes he wasn't technically brilliant and boxers have given him trouble, but he could throw fast combos, work the body, and had an underrated jab. i dont think he was just a straight killer that everyone makes him out to be, he wore down some opponents with good boxing before knocking them out. who do you guys have in mind??

Matthew Saad Muhammad was an excellent technical boxer-puncher, though hampered by lacking defensive reflexes. He had an excellent jab and left hand in general, knew how to work the body and vary his combinations up. Unfortunately a lot of people look at him as more of a puncher/brawler type. Don't get me wrong, he had no qualms about getting into a slug-fest, but his punch placements and methods of attack go underlooked. He had excellent skills.

It was an isolated incident, but Earnie Shavers outboxed Henry Clark in their first match for the best decision win of his career, closing Clark's eye with his long jab. Clark was a competent and experienced stylist with good height, reach and speed. One would have assumed that Shavers would automatically lose on points if Clark somehow managed to remain on his feet through to the final bell, but Earnie won in a novel way.

Scott LeDoux was never remotely in Clark's league as a stylist, but it was still nonetheless impressive when Mike Weaver defended his USBA Title on LeDoux's home turf by jabbing him silly, essentially shutting him out.

Coetzee is remembered for his right hand, but he was initially a competent boxer who idolized Ali. Leon Spinks completely changed his reputation into that of a latter day Johansson.

Mancini-Ramirez has been mentioned on this board before. Boom-Boom blanked him over 12 rounds with in and out movement when the southpaw was expecting to counter punch him off the ropes. Watching from ringside, Arguello was surprised and impressed that Ray eschewed his usual approach of relentless pressure with a display of greater versatility and mobility.

Sweet Pea mentioned Saad Muhammad, and while Matt was regarded as the definitive warrior through most of his reign, he did show that he could still box and move when Jerry Martin challenged him, and not have to absorb massive punishment before winning a title fight. (Matt could and should have done this more often.)

Does Benny Lynch fit the bill? Not the greatest hitter but definitely a fearsome slugger. Had great bounce and mobility, not a technician but naturally two fisted and could move whilst showing it.

waiting for the G-Man lovers to come out of the woodwork:lol:

Nigel Benn was certainly more well-rounded as he moved up. Don't know about 'underrated skills' though.

Tyson, the most skilled HW of all time without a shadow of a doubt.

EDIT. Knowing how to take someone out with 1 shot is a skill in itself, its not just genetics as some mental midgets on here claim, it takes much practise, timing and technique

Yeah, on paper he likely the best for skills the division ever saw. Just not versatile.

Wilfredo Gomez I would have to say might have been the best boxer amongst big hitters, his fight versus Juan Laporte I think shows how good of a boxer he was ,at the time he was a little past his peak and he put on a display of his skill

Julian Jackson had. Not saying he had Leonard type skills or anything, but he wasnt just some crude puncher. He had good technique, and solid technical skills.

    Agrre w/ Ike choice 100%.

Frank Bruno comes to mind. He really was a combination puncher that threw good combos and had that big ko%.

Alex Stewart was a similar type boxer one/two guy with a high ko %.

Riddick Bowe. I never thought of the guy as a big hitter but some folks certainly do. If you do buy into him as a puncher/ko guy, then he certainly fits the bill.
