Benitez was finished after the Hearns fight, he stopped training, his fight with Hearns had a skill level higher than any bout Canelo has been in, I don`t think Canelo throws enough punches to beat a defensive fighter like Benitez.

Canelo`s counters are as fast as Oscar`s Canelo is a brilliant counter puncher and Oscar ws hit with loads of counters throughout his career.

I think it's hilarious the crew parroting how Floyd's win over Canelo is the best win of the decade/one of the best ever are nowhere to be seen on this thread, and the one guy that did show up that started that thread isn't even picking Canelo in any of these :risas3:

I didn't mean to hit "Like" I meant to reply.

So, which ATG's does Golovkin handle? Haha. He fought on even terms and even lost one of two to the short stature Canelo.

Hearns did go toe to toe with Hagler. And he got demolished in 3 quick rounds.

Wow! That was one of the greatest fights in history and Hearns damaged his right hand too, no way could Canelo go toe to toe with the Hearns from the mid 80`s, he was awesome.

Canelo wouldn't do it, you're right.

Nor should have Hearns as that tactic got him KO'd in less than 20% of the scheduled fight.

Canelo would beat Mike McCallum? Ok then, Mark. Ok. Canelo wouldn't beat Kalambay, either.

Terry Norris that’s a good shout out, I’ll cosign that one (I’m a Norris fan)

Tito possibly and I guess Oscar too I think Red is just a little too thick for both of those guys

    1. I thought that Kalumbay-Kalule fight was a horrible robbery. Admittedly, that wasn't at his best, but even at his best he was simply a well schooled, technically sound boxer with good (but not great) speed and average power. Kind of similar to Trout, really.

    2. Moore was physically gifted, with a nice blend of speed and power. But he was pretty easy to hit, even at his best. Could bust up. Wasn't impossible to hurt either. He was, really, a souped-up Andre Berto...and was stylistically made to order for a cagey vet like Duran.

(And that victory over Benitez...occurred after the Duran fight, after Wilfred had sustained a brutal beating at the hands of Hamsho. It was also in large part caused by a broken ankle Benitez suffered in the first round, when he went down).

    3. Norris is a three time 154 lb champion and was the dominant guy at 154lbs through much of the 1990's. He lands in a lot of 154 AT top ten lists and probably deserves to based on his accomplishments.

    4. Toney at his best was probably a better middleweight, but the Toney who switched off against Tiberi was not at his best. I mean, if you want to say that version of Toney beats Canelo, fine. You do you. But a more consistent Canelo probably beats that version pretty easily.

    5. Nunn got broken down with counter punching and body work, and Canelo has the ability to utilize both in his fights.

    6. Canelo was clearly beaten once. Even though I scored both Canelo fights to GGG, there were definitely paths that could be followed to score a draw for Canelo in the first fight and a narrow win for Canelo in the rematch.

Canelo looks fast against the GGGs, the Hattons and the Cottos but I don't think he's faster than DLH. Oscar also had a great chin. Maybe some bodywork might do him in but I still believe Oscar is a level above Canelo when it comes to pure boxing skills. I know he says that he wouldn't want to fight him but that's just the promoter in him talking. The fighter in him never turned down a challenge, he didn't have to take the Hopkins fight but he did.

Canelo is no Hagler. IMO Hearns would hurt Canelo. Hearn's "weak chin" is overrated he was only KO'ED in three fights and two of those loses were by ATG. I can't see a 5'7" Canelo getting pass the long Hearn's jab.
