jerry quarry would have fought in the cruiser surely and he would have been the undisputed and undefeated champ for sure and he would take the title of david haye, he might beat too this version of vitali. rubin carter would be the middle weight champ today hands down.
Maybe, but dominate at 175? Yaqui fell short in five world title shots, two NABF challenges, and went just 2-2 with Jesse Burnett, exchanging the California title via SD in what was really the signature rivalry of his career. In title competition, he seemed unable to accelerate as needed to grab the brass ring. In the rematch with Saad Muhammad, he had Matt ready to go at any time after round eight, yet simply couldn't suck it up enough to close the show. Yes, he stopped Rossman, but Mike was in lousy shape as much as Yaqui was ready, then Lopez was held short of the WBA Title a second time by the aging Galindez, three years Yaqui's senior, in Victor's final successful defense. I just don't see much in his career to suggest he'd dominate the light heavyweight division at any time in the history of that class. (And no, I don't consider McTigue to have dominated at 175. Don't know anybody who does.)
So who would you favor over him? Dawson? Pascal? Hopkins? I think all of them are ripe pickings for a prime Lopez, whose only weakness was in the sheer depth of the era he fought in. Hell, I'd favor Burnett over anyone around today.
Come on, SweetPea, lhw is bad today but not that bad. Those guys would be big factors, definitly the best around but they wouldn´t dominate.
I wouldn't pick anyone over them at their best. I think Lopez would have quite a reign, personally. Perhaps Burnett's inconsistency would let him down, but at his best he was a better fighter than any currently fighting in the division. Very underrated.
As El Bujia says, there are many. Just to name a few: Jorge Ahumada would ***** anyone at lightheavy today. Joey Archer would lock middleweight down like it was a joke. Eduardo Lausse would do the same. Kenny Lane would do as he likes at either lightweight or junior welter. Eijiro Murata would own the feathers. Mario Martinez would beat anyone today at 130 imo.
As far as I can tell, Chris John is still a belt holder. And if i'm not too drunk, I think he's negotiating a Gamboa fight at the moment.
Sam Langford at light-middleweight - lightheavy Charley Burley light-middle - middleweight Howard Winstone at featherweight
