Schmeling's a good call, if my memory is correct, he helped support Joe Louis somewhere along the line.

Schmeling remained friends with Joe throughout his life, he even helped pay for his funeral.

Schmeling also helped save jewish kids from the Nazi regime.

He also told Hitler that what he was doing was bad.

Andy Lee is the nicest man in boxing. Literally never seen one interview where he came across as the least bit obnoxious. Never has a bad word to say about anyone e and is always honest and intelligent when he speaks. No BS

Darren Barker? I know he sort of conned fans by fighting injured but there is no retirement fund for retired boxers and I for one was glad to see him leave with a nice payday.

I know a lawyer who had some business dealings -- not a friendship so take it for what it's worth -- with Verrnon Forrest. I asked what he was like in person and he said Vernon was a real "sweetheart" (or something to that extent).

He also said that he left Vernon in his office for a few minutes to get some paperwork and when he came back Vernon was finishing up a set of 50 pushups. Not sure if that jives with what other people know about Forrest (was he always working out regardless of context?) but I thought it was kind of funny.
