Ruiz Jr was probably top 10.

 

Otto Wallin was in top 10 in the ring magazine.
He is prime.
Whyte was physical prime also. He was in top 10 very long.

 

Parker, Takam, Povetkin and Fat Andy were all top 10 at the time he beat them.

I don't personally believe he was a top 10 fighter but apparently Wallin was as well.

 

Prime would have to be defined and which top 10 would need to be specified. Ring, TBRB, PBO, a consensus etc.

Ruiz for instance was 284 lbs in the rematch. He did not seem physically or mentally prepared. Was that prime?

Wallin was ranked as a top 10 Ring contender, which would make him 11th including the champion. Does he count?

2015 Whyte was ranked outside the top 40 by PBO and he claimed to have an injury. But he may have been prime regardless of rankings at the time, he went on to be a universal top 10 and could've been exaggerating or inventing an ailment. Whyte was higher ranked by the time he fought Fury but lacked fire and durability, probably due to the money he'd made and the wars, in a pro ring and the gym.

I suspect that the Parker we have today is a better Parker than 2018 Parker, who lost to Whyte the fight after Joshua.

Wlad and Povetkin are his best wins for my money regardless. But you raise a fair point. The best versions of Ruiz and Usyk dominated him.

 

Joseph Parker, Andy Ruiz Jr (wasn’t AJ’s fault he turned up looking like a flat slob, he was prepared for him), Otto Wallin. Alexander Povetkin and Klitschko were both old but no slouches. Remember, people have been hyping up Wilder’s win over Ortiz and Fury’s win over Wladimir for years despite both of those guys being in their late thirties. I would hardly call Ortiz or Wlad slouches, both were legit top 5 guys despite their age.

Don’t understand the point of this thread. Don’t know about primes but were just about all of Joshua’s titles fights against fighters rated in the top 10 of one boxing organisation or another otherwise why would they be fighting for the title in the first place?

charles martin was the Ibf champ an in his prime when Joshua beat him an took his title so Martin being the champ at that time, does that make him a rated top 10 heavyweight in his prime when Joshua challenged him?

 

This was Whyte 17th. fight you hater. Whyte wasn't some puppy, as he already have beaten AJ in the amateurs. On top of that Whyte had Kickboxing career before moving to Boxing, as well as 1 MMA fight.
On top of that this was AJ 15th. fight, so nice AJ hater.
This was exactly the best version of Whyte, that was young, hungry and durable, he still has chin, and he lost it that night, as AJ took his virginity, beat the living s***** out him, and KO him unconsciousness, which is exactly how some fighters loser their durability/chin.
After that Parker, Rivas and Povetkin shattered that chin for good.

We can talk about Prime all we want, but this is a subjective factor, and people like you will always find excuses and claim this guy was shot or else.

Povetkin was on 8 win streak, never been stopped, drop once by Klitschko. AJ stopped him completely. While this wasn't prime Povetkin, prolly 2 years older than his prime ended or so, this was still very good version of Povetkin.

Also AJ faces him the moment Povetkin become mandatory, there wasn't any ducking and stalling tactics.

What matters is the resume and the time you are facing your opponents, not 2 years later or 1 years later. As 1 year is a huge difference in Boxing, especially when a fighter is 35, 36 or 37+. You can literally get old overnight.

Now as far as top 10 opponents, we are talking about our view of who the top 10 is, or what they ranking was?

Cause Martin was a Champion when AJ beats him.
Breazeale was top 10 when AJ beats him.
Whyte was top 10 when AJ beats him.
Klitschko was top 10 when AJ beats him.
Takam i think was top 10 when AJ beats him.
Parker was Champion when AJ beats him.
Pulev was top 10 when AJ beats him. Also Pulev has just 1 loss to Klitschko and was on 8 fight win streak.
Ruiz was Champion when AJ school his **** 12-0. Make more excuse for Ruiz pls.
Wallin was top 10 in every single organization when AJ beats him. Top 5 in most. Top 2 in IBF.


But here is a challenge for you, name me a single top fighter Fury has beaten, who was younger than him ?!!!

Wallin was outside of top 50 when Fury fought him.
