Also, Ali is already a widely accepted GOAT, but what if he hadn't been exiled during his prime? There's an argument to be made that frazier nor foreman would have won the world title ....would this have been good, or detrimental for his resume....I ask this because the fact that frazier and foreman showed how great they were, made them the impressive scalps on Ali's resume...

 

I'd say leonard, hearns, duran and hagler off top of my head. All had the opposition around them to be the goat but none claimed it.

Duran was closest and had he beaten benitez, hearns and hagler he'd certainly be up there.

Leonard is next, he beat the guys he needed to but an eye injury kept him out for 5 years and after his gift against hagler he went on an easy streak.

Next is hearns, he was beating leonard convincingly before getting caught. He was beating barkley dominantly before getting caught. He was outgunned in a slugfest against hagler, had he won these fights and unified at lhw he'd be up there.

Of course there is then marvin. All he had to do was jump up and beat the jinx to be classed right up there with the best of them.

Seriously. Had he been more talented he would have either beat Chavez or at least lost without getting as busted up as he did. Whitaker gave Chavez a solid fight and didn't take a beating doing it.

what about sergio martinez. He turned pro late and only came in to the spotlight 2 years ago only if he was 5 years younger then maybe he Wouldve had more time to be ATG.

 

Well let's wait for his career to be done first dude. If you use that criteria there's a whole heap of guys you could talk about and it would almost be inconsequential
