He was on the slide. Floored by Kevin Leushing and only scraped past ODLH.

Woods, Ruiz, Griffin and Hill are ELITE? Damn good fighters (huggers in Ruiz's case), but elite is pushing it.

this one's aimed at me pretty much because it's the cornerstone of my argument as opposed to calzaghe.

i sent this guy a detailed explanation in private messages about it but he doesn't offer opinions.....only questions and judgments.

    but i'll answer it...

jones is easy. he beat toney and hopkins, both when they were young and touted for bigger things. i don't think people should dismiss the ruiz fight too fast either. that was a much bigger achievement than some people might give him credit for.

hopkins, who has just beaten the middleweight champ pavlik - who happens to be in his prime and title reign - has smaller men on his resume (delahoya, tito) - but what the poster really wants to know is why this differentiates them from calzaghe.

the answer is that they fought in the limelight and were always targets for superfights even though neither jones nor hopkins ever cracked the PPV market in their primes.

the hopkins - tito fight was a masterclass for me. and a lot of people had tito favourite to win that fight despite the natural weight issues.

hopkins hadn't really been given his dues at that point possibly because he had ruled a weak division and tito was coming off a win against oscar.

thats how hopkins got respect and recognition as opposed to calzaghe, which is what you really wanted to know.

More than half that list ain`t elite and the others were NOT in their prime. And that`s the important phrase on this board.

Using "elite" in reference to top-rated fighters and champions B-Hop beat:
    Antonio Tarver
    Kelly Pavlik
    Oscar De La Hoya
    Tito Trinidad
    Winky Wright
    Glen Johnson

Americans can not throw the Khan card in our face's it was only casual fans that thought Khan was great over here whilst he was not to far p4p behind the so called great in America's very own Kelly Pavlik.

if being undefeated at that time and was a favourite to beat hopkins is on the slide i'd like to know what isn't.

please don't post of you haven't got your facts sorted out.

Like I said. Your definition of elite is more akin to HOFer or ATG. So I made a point of posting this as "elite in reference to top-rated fighters and champions". And I am starting to doubt your definition of 'prime' as well. It seems that you are more focused on the fighter's age than when they best competed.
