It doesnt have to be your top 5 as some may not be sure who their top 5 all time fav`s are but just pick 5 fighters you liked/like a lot & tell me which fight they really had to dig deep to prove their greatness in your eyes.

    Here is mine......

Muhammad Ali - vs Frazier III (1975)

    Erik Morales - vs Barrera I (2000)

Julio cesar Chavez - vs Taylor I (1990)

    Roberto Duran - vs Leonard I (1980)

    Ray Leonard - vs Hearns I (1981)

Ali & Duran never had to come from behind on the cards like the other 3 but they had to fight with sheer will like never before to maintain their lead, all performances told me a great deal about those men on those nights, thats the sort of fighters I like - skill with plenty of will.

These are not my 5 favorite fighters, but the gutsiest wins when I was still a teenager.
    Michael Moorer vs. Bert Cooper

    George Foreman vs. Alex Stewart

    Riddick Bowe vs. Andre Golota

Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo Okay, I was 19 days shy of 28 here.

This was hard for me, as some of my favorite fighters do not have very gutsy wins.

Tyson: I don't think any were really that gutsy.

Whitaker: His loss to Trinidad was gutsy.

Juan Manuel Marquez does not get the decision in his toughest fights.

Ali had tough fights. I just bore myself using him as an example for anything.

Roberto Duran vs. Ray Leonard should have been a fight that I listed above. Duran waged war with someone that was bigger, stronger, and faster; and still came out ahead.

Not too sure how high it ranks on the gutsometer (you like that??!!), but Whitaker's one over Hurtado underlined an aspect of his greatness for me.

    I did like that.

Whitaker's win over Hurtado was very impressive. I was just trying to think of fights where someone was on the brink of losing, only to come back and claim victory from the opponent.

Okay, that is exactly what that fight looked like. I meant on the verge of losing by knock out.

    ................Good thread.

Sal Sanchez: Probably Pat Ford. He was befuddled early on by Ford's awkwardness and power (not to mention his refusal to lead), and had to rally dramatically in the late rounds, going aggressive and attacking Ford when he realized his sit-and-wait tactics weren't working. I had that one dead even after 14, but Sanchez manned up and dominated the last round.

Bobby Chacon: Either Boza II or Limon IV, though I think Boza II is a good choice. He had more serious things to have to come back from against Boza.

Alexis Arguello: Perhaps his win against Olivares. Olivares fought exceedingly well, and shot dozens of rib-roasting left hooks to Arguello's midsection and took a lead going into the late rounds.

Mando Ramos: His ten-round decision win against Sugar Ramos. Just see it, you'll know what I mean.

    Matthew Saad Muhammad: Well, lessee........

Do you really think Foreman's win over Stewart was gutsier than his win over Lyle, or do you mean these are the gutsiest ones you actually watched/were following at the time?

I think Archie Moore's comeback from being allmost completely out against Yvon Durelle ,when Moore was an old man is truly remarkable .

No, I would not call Foreman's win over Stewart gutsier than his win over Lyle. Foreman vs. Lyle would have been a fight I had only read about when Foreman fought Stewart. It was not until the late 90's, that I actually saw Foreman vs. Lyle replayed on television. I must say that is definitely one of the gutsiest wins ever.

Foreman's win over Stewart does remind me of that win over Lyle, or the qualities that George had as a fighter. Stewart had taken control of that fight, and was beating Foreman's face badly. Foreman ripped into Stewart, in I think the 8th round, and prevented defeat. With the point deduction, I've always thought people could argue a draw in that fight.

1.Larry Holmes when he beat Ken Norton for the title. He had a bad arm, was fighting outside in June in Las Vegas in a tough fight that went 15 rounds. Norton had been 15 before, but it was Holmes who sucked it up and really dug deep to earn that victory in his first 15 round fight and title shot.
2.Ali overcoming Frazier in Manila. It was fought in over 100 degree heat, and was a brutal fight which neither was the same afterwards. It was their rubber match and at stake was not only the title but bragging rights between 2 bitter rivals. What Ali had to go through to earn that victory and what he was willing to go through for that fight was gutsy as they come.
    3. Holyfield taking the fight to Riddick Bowe in their rematch, overcoming Bowe's size and regaining the title was a very gutsy effort by Holyfield when many doubted he could pull it off.
    4. Kelly Pavlik being able to survive that 2nd round against Jermain Taylor and wind up taking him out in 7 to win the middleweight title.
5.Bobby Chacon in the 4th Limon bout was an incredible display of guts, heart, and perseverence.
