In your opinion which are pound for pound the greatest ten organizations that approve and sanction "world" title fights?

why is it that the calzaghe haters/dislikers completely disregard the WBO, whereas most objective recognise that many of the WBO champs in boxing are actually very decent.

It's not a Calzaghe hater thing. Until 10 years ago, the WBO wasn't recognized as one of the major belts in the US, just like the IBF isn't recognized as a major belt in Japan (they only recognize WBA and WBC, which is part of the reason why you so rarely see unification fights involving Japanese fighters).

I had no idea there were 10 orgs, but I think it's pretty well established that the pecking order of the top 5 is WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, IBO. Most people don't recognize IBO as a major. Some people don't recognize WBO either. A few people (and all of Japan) don't recognize IBF. Hell, in South Africa, there are 6 majors, including the IBO and WBF.

Honestly, I hope the IBO can overtake some of the other sanctioning bodies. They seem to have a more fair way of doing things. No back-office politics, rankings are based on a mathematical formula, no outrageous sanctioning fees. There's a reason why they have so many prominent champs, despite not being one of the majors. Check out their rankings sometime though. A lot less ridiculous than the other ABCs, and better than boxrec's.

Why should I recognise it? We don't need another world title. Three is enough. It has nothing to do with Calzaghe. I was a Johnny Nelson and Herbie Hide fan but I never pretended they were world champions. Anyone from the UK will know that the WBO isn't a genuine world title.

    IBF
    WBO
    WBA

actually IBF and WBO could go either way... Just because they had a 3 fight Heavyweight Title Eliminator I gave it to IBF... Lemme think of more

IBO (Tarver has the LH Belt, Mabuza has another one, Wlad I think has the Heavyweight one, cant think of the others)
    WBF
WBU (I think Corrie Sanders had this belt)
    Isn't there a belt called IBA~??
The rest I remember are North American titles and the European belts....

the IBO has the best system in place using computerized rankings with no mandatories. not saying is should be considered as a major belt but it's better than the big 4 system where rankings are too easily manipulated giving undeserving madatories title shots.

That is both impressive and sad; That there are that many, and that you know them all.

I knew Wladimir Klitschko was the IBO Heavyweight champion (along with the WBO and IBF), but I did not know that he was the World Boxing Federation (not to be confused with the slightly more well known World Boxing Foundation which is generally the one referred to when WBF is used) Heavyweight Champion. I know most of you will groan at the mere thought of another sanctioning body, but if they are going to exist they might as well endorse fighters in the top ten. Looking through Steve Dmitry's boxing website, I see that Samuel Peter was the IBC Heavyweight champion and both Ruslan Chagaev and Nicolai Valuev hold Global Boxing titles. Unfortunately I also noted that even Tomaz Bonin held a heavyweight title.

I meant this thread as a sick joke about the state of boxing and the mutitude of so called organizations and someone actually came up with 10 of them. We wonder why boxing has become a forgettable niche sport?
