Based on his destruction of top contenderFrank Fletcher and the very tough fight he gave Marvin Hagler. Not to mention the much better fight he gave Hearns. Andres was a journeyman who won an title against weak opposition and was crushed by Hearns. A one sided beating .... Wilfredo was in his prime v.s.Hearns. He crushed Hope, easily defeated a motivated Duran and was looking terrific and dedicated at 154. This was a terrific win for Hearns.
this will surprise many but i have to go with this: 1) Hill 2) Benitez 3) Cuevas 4)Duran 5) Schuler i with the hill win based on his age and the weight. he out boxed the boxer in benitez with one hand
Roldan had a heavily padded record too, and a win over Frank Fletcher doesn't outweigh the wins Andries had in his career. Who Hearns had a tougher time with doesn't decide who the better opponent was. Who's better is who's better. It just makes the win against that opponent more impressive. Hill was in his prime too, and had a number of impressive wins as well. This was a terrific win for Hearns up several weight classes from 154 and well past his prime.
1. Benitez 2. Duran 3. Hill 4. Cuevas 5. Leonard 2 Hearns has a true ATG resume, and for me deserves to rank in the top 20 at least, of any ATG list. More importantly, he fought the best when they were at their best
Yes, but the fight was close, it was no robbery in that a draw in a fight that I scored to Tommy 113/112 is justifiable. And this from a person who liked only Duran more than Hearns, and would have Ray as arguable my most disliked fighter.
I'll probably go Leonard 2 as number 5. Hof victories at WW, LMW, SMW, LHW. special talent was our Tommy.
Cuevas Benitez Duran Virgil Hill Andries it is hard to rate Roldan too high. I liked his style but to be he had a hard punch and swarmed and gave elites trouble, but what elites did he beat? Did he win a world title? No.. So I have to go with Andries. Or the Shuler fight. Leonard 2 would have been great with a win.
