More and more both fans and fighters themselves are becoming obsessed with "celebrity" trainers. Many of these trainers are unbearably annoying once they get a taste of fame. Similarly, many boxers sadly hope from big name trainer to big name trainer. It's a disturbing trend. With that said, here's a list of my current least favorite: 1. Virgil Hunter - Tries excessively hard to sound like a smooth talker. Talks like a con man snake oil salesman. Might be a decent trainer, but hasn't shown anything in my eyes. I'm convinced if Andre Ward wasn't born, none of us would've ever heard his name. 2. Freddie Roach - Seems to have some talent in making fighters offensive machines. That said, he is HORRENDOUSLY annoying. Loves talking to the media and playing that game. Is wrapped up in himself and his own fame. People are afraid to call him out on being an ******* because he has Parkinson's. 3. Floyd Mayweather Sr. - Has accomplished nothing in the training world. Can't speak English. Has a quote about anything and everything in the boxing world that people feel compelled to post, despite Sr. being irrelevant. His greatest training accomplishment was bringing little Floyd to a boxing gym. honorable mention: Teddy Atlas What are yours, ESB?
Floyd Mayweather, Sr is one of the greatest of all time, he is there in company with the Arcel's/Futch's/Duva's/Dundee's/Steward's of the world etc etc.
Roach Garcia HM: Sanchez Roach for catchweights BS, Garcia for talking a lot. Sanchez I like as a trainer I just don't like the way he's hyped Golovkin before in a way that is disrespectful to old legends I feel. But he's calmed with that lately so this is just a HM.
Sanchez does go over the top but to be fair, he has a legit #1 Middleweight with no competition on the horizon. I understand how he's a little ****y, especially since he and team GGG haven't got true validation of where they stand (thanks, Cotto!).
Garcia Hunter Roach Usually once a trainer becomes famous and a celebrity of sorts, I tend to find things to dislike about them. I am not a "fan" of a single trainer out there.
LOL Forgot about Angel Garcia and Ruben Guerrero. To me they're the same. I don't think anyone takes them seriously so they're not as big a deal to me.
Virgil Hunter and Buddy "pull the plug" Mcgirt. A lot of better trainers get way less exposure than these two.
Yup, I think he's a decent trainer but Ward made him what he is. Look at his disrespectful way he was in an interview was with Radio Raheem. Came off as a pompous *******.
